Don't you think she will actually have acting lessons this time?
I'm pretty sure Oprah and the other producers will make sure everything is on point and to ask her to do this they must see something in Fantasia...thats if the rumor is true.
To EltonJ and the other anti Fantasia crowd..Its funny while you and the others are so negative towards fantasia, the real Elton John was very pleased when she performed for him at his Kennedy Center Tribute along with other stars who are actually legends in the industry consistently give her a thumbs up for her performances.
You are entitled to your opinions but I think I'll give more credance to the opinion of the stars who actually make millions doing this for a living.

You just registered today so clearly you are new around here.
Just to let you know, autoprt, this isn't a Fantasia forum. That means there will be people here who don't always say nice things. Fantasia doesn't get special treatment.
Also, you should take note that many of those on this board are actors and actresses in theater and know what they are talking about. Even if they don't make the "millions and millions" you apparently think is so very important in order to have credibility.
Some will like her and some won't. Suck it up and deal with it.

would yankeefan and pj like to eat their crow now or later?

It well may be that Elton John & other stars love seeing her perform, and I'm not discrediting their opinions. You're just talkin about singing Elton John is a singer. I don't doubt that she's a good singer I believe she is, but there is a lot more to Broadway than just singing, and when you can't convincingly play youself in a movie about yourself then what makes one think that you can play a part like Celie on Broadway. I mean I really didn't believe her as herself in her movie so its probably gonna be hard to believe her as Celie, especially given that she has to play Celie starting at age 14 through her adult life.
I guess we'll just have to wait & see.
marie,
in the spirit of kindness, i've been reading this forum a few months following the play Rent but never felt compelled to post. I enjoy Fantasia's music so when I heard about the color purple i checked to see what was being said to find the majority of comments bashing Fantasia which i felt was totally unjustified and compelled me to signup to respond to the terrible comments i saw.
of course this is the great US and we are free to comment which what makes this great and of course I can read that this is broadwayworld.com not fantasia.com, please don't take what I am saying out of context just trying to add another side to the posts.

And in the spirit of kindness, I will suggest back to you, autoprt, that it's not a good first impression to basically insult your fellow posters, some of whom are actors in the field and very capable of assessing Fantasia's potential and her eventual performance.
Yes you can like Fantasia here, there are others who like her as well and are holding out hope that she does well. There are also those who, for reasons that may be very valid, do not like her and would prefer not to see her in TCP. This isn't a site that needs to devolve into "You all is haters!!!!111" type posts just because something is said about Fantasia. Keep that at the Idol message boards, please.
marie,
to be honest i'm not that pleased that fantasia is doing tcp, aretha franklin is working on a play based on her life, this is something i felt would be a better fit for her.
i'm from CT living in ATL and took acting classes while in college to help with public speaking, so i don't get to the theater much anymore
don't worry, i won't ghettoize your board, just wanted to ensure fairness but recently reading some points that do appreciate her singing but just concerned about the acting, so i'm ok. hope you are also.

I was just reading some old posts and several things in here made me chuckle just a bit like these quotes by people:
"Haha...if she does go on people will realize how much Diana Degarmo is better than her. Funny that they might both be on Broadway."
"She should have turned the corner & saw how she beat Diana yet Diana is doing a lot better than she is..."
"So on broadway Diana might have Fantasia hemmed up, but in terms of overall financial success since AI Fantasia has a sizable and measurable lead. "
None of these quotes turned out to be true. Just the opposite happened. Except the part about overall financial success since AI.

I was laughing too when I found out Fantasia would be on Broadway, but boy was I wrong.

You weren't the only one Jay.
All these so called actors and actresses that posted in this thread on this board couldn't wait to bash her and make fun of it.
Its nice to see you come back and say you were wrong. You will not see any of them saying it. They will even deny that she is brilliant. Thats how it is.
But thanks for being honest.
Beating a dead horse that you dug up.
That's a new one.

I saw this thread dug up and i thought "...shouldn't she be?" until I realized it was an old thread.
I was hoping it would be like...
"Fantasia Barrino at COLOR PURPLE tonight... threw up into the pit during the middle of "I'm Here". The production manager thinks uncleaned shellfish was the reason behind the incindent."
but alas it wasn't.
I'm curious also why this thread was bumped...
Because Dream On and Virgo like to hear themselves praise Fantasia's performance.

Yes. She should be but with her attendance problems, you can never be too sure!

It seems they dug it up for the sole purpose of trying to slight Miss DeGarmo's Hairspray performances and/or her success in theater. It's really not about Fantasia at all, it's about immature fanwar stuff that they can't leave at the americanidol forums. It doesn't matter because nobody else here really cares but it seems to matter a great deal to them. Weird.

They were gloating, but Diana Degarmo wasn't mentioned.
But this was an interesting read.
