Now I'm not a huge Fantasia fan, but her performance in THE COLOR PURPLE was unforgettable, and luckly she has recorded a version of 'I'm Here' on her new CD "Back to Me"
Here is the album on itunes
This review is pretty hilarious. I'm Here is the only track they liked.

I am not a real fan but I did like the song she sang this morning on GMA and I have sampled the CD and there are a few songs that I would actually buy. From the samples I have heard, it isn't as bad as that review says.
How convenient that her suicide attempt coincided with the release of her new CD. Sorry, I'm just cynical that way.
Kalimba, I kind of thought the same thing. She even has a VH1 Behind the Music episode on tonight and they are talking about it on there.
The woman just attempted to end her life over a married man. A married man who she got back together with after leaving the hospital. Not a really great endorsement for the powerful resilience expressed in "I'm Here." I have a feeling the album is gonna tank.
I bought the album and LOVE IT! Fantasia is a talent and force to reckoned with. The album was only $10 on ITunes (pre-ordered), and this 'critic' very unfairly failed to mention that Fantasia's core audience eat this kind of material up. She's an extremely diverse performer with the ability to sink into a lyric, bend it, stretch it like no other singer today (IMHO).
It doesn't cater to everyone, but Fantasia is continuously making her mark in a very unstable, commercial industry and doing a damn good job. If anything, "I'm Here", as good as she performes it on the cd, feels out of place. As much as I LOVED her performance in The Color Purple. It felt forced on the cd of dance heavy, self-affirming songs (how ironic considering what "I'm Here" talks about).
I would encourage the nay sayers to buy the cd/listen to the songs and come to their own conclusion. R/B/Soul can indeed be stirring, but Fantasia is right in her element for where she is in life.
I send out good vibes/prayers to her and her family. Suicide (rather coincidental or not) is a serious matter, and something tells me that yes, it was a cry for help. She's a young lady, a mom, a sister, a HUGE financial supporter of her family, and entertainer, and a God-fearing sistah who made some mistakes. Support her by picking up the cd, which is pretty darn good.

i'm going to start by saying that i'm a huge fan of fantasia so i'm totally biased... but i think it's her best album yet. i got to see her live on the idol tour, and on tour with jamie foxx as well as seeing her three times in "the color purple" on broadway... all of these experiences were AMAZING. i thought her performance in "the color purple" was stunning, and think her recording of "i'm here" is equally as wonderful... i hope the rumors are true about her doing a movie musical adaptation of "the color purple" because i think it would be extraordinary. but yeah, i would recommend her new album. i'm definitely pulling for her moreso now than ever.
I definitely think its her best album yet. Good for her.
I love Fantasia too, but this version of "I'm Here" could do with a little tightening. It's a full minute longer than the LaChanze version on the cast recording for no real reason.
Did Fantasia draw everything out like that during her performance? It would've turned The Color Purple into a 3+ hour event.

orlandog, pretty sure God-fearing people don't sleep with other peoples' spouses. I mean, it's okay to like her, but I wouldn't try to claim that she's extremely moralistic at the moment. Have you heard the cut song "Lucky"? She's absolutely shameless.

She aparently didnt really want be "HERE"
Husband stealing ho
Actually, God fearing people sleep with other people spouses, commit crimes, attempt suicide, etc on a daily basis. The fact that she recorded "LUCKY" and then it was cut, (perhaps starting to realize the mistakes she made) very well could've been the start on her road to recovery from all the drama, rather she is at fault or not. No one's perfect.
My point was/is that she is 26 years young and learning to deal with lifes' lessons. Again, no one's perfect, even the famous people (hello Lindsey Lohan). The thread was talking about her newest cd and reviewing the MUSIC, not her morals. If you want to talk about morals in the music, musical theatre industry, start a thread about it. Name calling is an easy thing to retort to, I'm not perfect, Fantasia isn't perfect. But she is attempting to pick herself up and learning life's lessons after attempting suicide and/or having an affair with a married man-kudos to her for doing so.
Watch her Behind the music and show a little compassion:

I bought her version of "I'm Here" and it's nothing like her performance on the Tonys. She milked the crap out of the song on the recording and brings it to a screeching thud. She needed to realize she's not performning live on the CD, so huge pauses aren't really appreciated. Nor is the recording of all the "mmm"s and "mmhhmm"s.
I'll keep my LaChanze version-its much tighter, more emotional and gorgeous.

wait for it....................
wait for iiiiittttttt.................
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! that's the biggest load of horsecrap I've ever read on this board, and I've read ALOT of horsecrap.

Well, it's also nothing like her performance live in the theatre but, it does give you a sense. Taking nothing away from the fine performance of LaChanze, Fantasia's version was a raw & gritty, emotional outpouring that was a perfect culmination of her performance. If you want pretty and clean, you're correct with keeping LaChanze on your iTunes.
Does her recording include people screaming "GO HIT IT, FANTASIA!!!!" and "YOU CAN DO IT, 'TAIS!!!" every other line?
sbflyfan, that's one of my favorite youtube videos ever.
Her performance of the song on Oprah was the one that touched me the most.

Need we forget the 'Tasia thread led by orlandog?

I still wish Oprah's planned musical remake starring her was to be. I knows she's not a box office draw, but I think she'd be wonderful. And that Oprah is fantastic.
