Patti LuPone, Anna D. Shapiro, Laura Benanti, and Mark Rylance were by far my favorites, though I thought Deanna Dunagan, Rondi Reed, and Paulo Szot all gave lovely speeches as well.
jv92, your comment re: Patti's speech is perfect. I completely agree.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Laura Benanti's was totes my fave. I was sooooo shocked that she won. She totally deserved it. "Oh Arthur! You're standing! Yay Arthur!" hahaha. It was adorable. Patti's was my second favorite. "Shut up! Its been 29 years!" You go girl. It must b hard to thank everyone who's ever taught you or helped you in like, 30 seconds.
I didn't think they'd dare start the music on Patti! I thought she was gonna break out in song...or eat someone.
And you think of all of the things you've seen, and you wish that you could live in between ,and you're back again only different than before...

I think Patti's "Shut up!" bit would have been pushing it had she been boasting about her Tonys like all the presenters or simply rambling on about the show/whatever. But she had a list of people to thank, and it was obviously very important to her that all of them be included. I thought it was actually kind of touching how much she cared about mentioning all of them.
And also, who HASN'T wanted to scream at the orchestra when they start playing over good speeches? Hell, I've done it in my living room. Probably wouldn't do it at Radio City, but that (among other things) is what separates me from Patti LuPone.
As for favorite speeches, mine are along the same lines as everyone else's. Loved Patti's, actually cried at Laura's, and having never liked Lin, suddenly loved him. The "Finishing the Hat" reference made my life, as did the line: "It's too darn hot, like my man Cole Porter said."
I chose, and my world was shaken. So what?
The choice may have been mistaken. The choosing was not.
His speech was one of the best I've seen on the Tony telecast in a long time...although Patti's was wonderful as well. As was Anna D. Shapiro's. And Mark Rylance just annoys the crap out of me so...yeah...the only thing I laughed at during his speech was when the camera panned to Mary McCormack who had the best expression on her face.
Most speeches were VERY boring, but a note to the producers, PUT THE BEST BOOK, BEST CHOREOGRAPHY, AND BEST REVIVAL OF A PLAY AWARDS ON THE TELECAST!!!!!!!!!
