Hey for those in the know-is there a merch stand for the Marquis where one who is not attending the show can purchase the CD? Thanks in advance.

Posted: 11/16/11 at 1:57pmThanks, SondheimFan. I didn't know much about the setup for this venue. I will try soon (this afternoon-cannot wait any longer). Hoping to hit them during intermission-not sure if they'll sell me one while the show is going.

Wish someone could go into more details. Who sounds the best? Who sounds better in the theatre? PS Classics have a distinctive sound that can be a little bit polarising..is this recording in line with their 'sound' or does it sound different with the large orchestra?
How does Bernadette sound in "Too Many Mornings"?
Does Elaine Paige forget any lyrics? (J/ks)
Are there any changes from the recording vs the shows besides the dialogue of "Buddy's Eyes" and the lyrics of (You're gonna love tomorrow?).
Are there any surprises about the dialogue included or not included from those titles? (I was hoping those lines when Bernadette, very heartbreakingly says "I'm going to get married" or whatever [paraphrased).
Is this the definitive recording :P?

Just listened to the entire recording. It is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. This is definitely the definitive FOLLIES recording. Krasker has truly outdone himself. I am too excited to form paragraphs, so I'm going to write in bullet form.
- The Overture/Prologue sounds thrilling. I am beyond happy to have the leads' entrance dialogue on a recording.
- Great sprinkling of the "party dialogue" throughout the first disc.
- Bernadette sounds truly LOVELY throughout the entire recording. They've worked with her awkward transitions into head voice, and they are absolutely smooth on the recording. "In Buddy's Eyes" may be the highlight of the first disc! The full lead-in monologue is actually a MIX of the original and current dialogue. It works wonderfully, and I wish they had done this in the actual production. I love how they combined them.
- They kept the "chatter" throughout the dance breaks in "Who's That Woman?" And it's a brilliant move. It's much more exciting to hear the chatter and laughing, as opposed to just dance music.
- Elaine Paige gives us the "fell apart" line before "I'm Still Here" - not "laughed their asses off." She sounds incredible. The ending of the song will blow you away.
- Bernadette sounds SENSATIONAL in "Too Many Mornings." The soprano notes are just perfect. I mean it. Truly great.
- They included the full Buddy and Sally dialogue after "The Right Girl" including Sally's "gone mad" lines.
- Jan Maxwell does a great job, and she cut down on the anger a bit in "Could I Leave You?"
- GOOD NEWS: They included the full "Loveland" transition music. The production does not, as we know.
- "Losing My Mind" sounds great. Bernadette thankfully toned it down a bit for the recording. She sings the higher ending note, as she does live. Side note: Donna McKechnie also sang the higher ending note in the Papermill production, but supposedly Sondheim made her sang the note as written for the recording. Not the case here.
- The "Chaos" comes off GREAT. Chilling. The finale dialogue has some SURPRISES. The Ben and Phyllis exchange reflects the original book. I almost thought they were going to use Sally's suicide lines, but alas, they copped out! They did include "For tomorrow? Oh DEAR GOD, it IS tomorrow."
This is really a stunning recording. I am blown away. I'll probably add more thoughts later!

Posted: 11/17/11 at 12:06amDo they do the FULL "Right Girl" dance break (from the original) or just what is used in the show? That needs to be recorded sometime, there's never been a full recording of that great John Berkman dance arrangement (because there's never been a Buddy who could dance it since Gene Nelson).

No, "The Right Girl" reflects what's on stage at the Marquis.
I always thought the Papermill recording used the complete dance arrangement for the song. Does it not?

Posted: 11/17/11 at 12:16amThanks for the report, ljay. I personally think "laughed their asses off" works much better than "fell apart."

Posted: 11/17/11 at 12:26am^Yes! That confused me at first because sometimes people say that someone fell apart and they mean they broke down or that they were crying.

Posted: 11/17/11 at 12:30amI'm pretty sure the Papermill cut part of it, I think there is a little more at the end. Could be wrong though, I know there's a video of Nelson doing the whole thing.
