Can she sing? I know her mother was a fantastic singer.
Maya is a great choice for the mom! I'd love to see John Bolton reprise his role.

Does anyone know who is handling casting for this?
Based off of the open call for Ralphie, it looks like Telsey:

Melinda Dillon's performance in the 1983 classic is perfection.

Matthew Broderick will play Adult Ralphie
I am not a fan of this casting at all.
Lost of the bottom of that article: Scott Ellis will co-direct with the guy who did Grease Live. Let's hope this is on the level of She Loves Me and 20th Century.

Woah! That's big! I hope they bring back warren Carlyle to choreograph.

It would make sense since Carlyle did the original, he's worked with Scott Ellis a few times, and he's coming off the success of Hello Dolly.
Oh man, the only thing more boring than watching Broderick act is listening to him narrate. Are they trying to make sure the kids fall asleep early, so their parents can successfully put Santa's gifts under the tree?
Matthew Broderick will be acting very stiff and have a nasaly voice, no doubt. Why does he sell tickets again?

Peter Billingsley (Ralphie in the movie) would have been my choice for adult Ralphie. An opportunity missed....

Right--- because Peter Billingsley is a MUCH bigger household name than Matthew Broderick!

If all they wanted was a big name for TV, there are probably a couple hundred contemporary TV or movie stars that were ahead of Broderick on that list. Billingsley would have been a gimmick, but I think they could have gotten as much mileage out of that gimmick as they will out of Broderick, who hasn't done anything notable for a TV or movie audience since before much of the potential audience was born. I'm not criticizing Broderick's ability. I'm just pointing out that for today's TV audience, he is NOT a big name. They might as well have stuck with original cast member Dan Lauria, who was also on a popular TV show in the 80's and 90's.

A show noted for its narration, even.
Matthew Broderick?
These days he makes paint drying looking like the Indy 500 in comparison, he's lost all energy and pep in his line readings.
Neil Patrick Harris as the adult narrator.
Matthew Broderick?? Lordy, that'll put me right to sleep. He's been playing every character the same way since 2000 when he did The Producers: whiny, nasally voice, and low energy.
Broderick was an unexpected highlight of the Broadway-heavy fourth season of "BoJack Horseman," so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in a movement-light, narration-heavy supporting role.
(It also occurs to me that he and Jean Shepherd have rather similar voices and cadences; Shepherd is iconic, but laconic, and not a hugely energetic vocal presence. Very NPR, we'd call him today.)
I was actually looking forward to this but I probably won't watch it now. I can't stand the thought of listening to the nasal, whining voice of the bland and boring Matthew Broderick for a couple of hours.

LOL. This comment alone shows you don't actually know the musical. He won't be in it much. Calm down, gurl.
Maybe they have some bigger names lined up for the father and teacher and some of the other roles.
TV audiences haven't had to endure Broderick as NY theatre audiences have, so he might be more exciting for them than for us.
