Action films may be simply defined as fast paced movies that display the use of human endurance. Oftentimes, action films are great box-office hits, but lack critical appeal because of their two-dimensional heroes or villains. Surely over time we, as an audience, have seen a change in this genre. There have been variations in the genre that are reflected in the film techniques used due in part to the advance in technology. Action is a multi-faceted genre, having a wide variety of sub-genres such as disaster, espionage, and martial arts films. Comparisons will be made between two films: ____ and Kill Bill Volume 1.
The main plot of an action film centers around a male action hero or protagonist - portrayed by prominent actors such as: Bruce Lee, Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Women in action films usually play the roles of accomplices or love interests of the hero. This has clearly changed over time. It is becoming more common these days to see films about empowered females, with the popularity of the recently made Kill Bill driving the trend. All of the old action movies - Ben Hur, Spartacus, Magnificant Seven, Seven Samurai, etc. -
That's what I got so far. Sorry for posting that, but there's no way my attention is going to be focused solely on this paper. So I share with you lovies and pretend that that counts as "working."
Hmmmm...classic...I can't think of any at the moment...But Spartacus reminds me of the recent, Gladiator.
I'm in ACL right now, locally. Such a fun show, but I'd be happy if I never had to do a kick-line again in my life. Uggh, and in character shoes!

Hello everyone- these threads always keep me entertained for far too long when I need to be working.
I know the thread got off this topic a while ago but I was wondering if Fredi knew anything about whether or not they were planning to film the 10th anniversary and do something like what they did with Les Mis?

you need to take the personality of your car into thought when giving it a name.
well, it's a cute little car, lots of personality, but I don't know it's sex yet. I guess I would consider it a she. She enjoys driving me to school and doesn't like the wind.

kill bill could actually be put in the "martial arts" genre and you can really do some comparisons there...

brdlwr - yes... we have kids.
She's faster than you would think and really enjoys showing that off to police men. She has had some health problems recently but I think she's gonna be ok now.
How about Lawrence of Arabia?
Haha yeah the chorus line revival was announced like...half a year ago...it's coming out in the spring, they're still auditioning...apparently "everyone and their mother" auditioned and callbacks aren't until february. I used to lurk on the wagon thread and I remember someone asking your fav musical and i remember well if it wasn't your favorite you mentioned it's like your rent you listened to it all the time and such and found it revolutionary so yeah, figured you'd be excited.
ah, Hairspray's a great CD to listen to, I personally find the score to be stronger than the book, but you can't help dancing...hmm...you could totally be motor mouth w/ a blonde wig...could you see yourself in the part?
And yeah, hopefully I'll see color purple within the next month.
Fredi I have a question,
I am a vocal performance major at Boston Conservatory but my real heart lies in Musical Theater. Would you switch to MT if you were me or would you get the classical training first and then do MT for grad school. My real goal in life is to be a successful actress/singer in professional theater. Thanks! and hope all is well!

And Kill Bill also probably has some elements of classic Westerns... but possibly not enough to make a full comparison. I would say any action movie where revenge is a big theme, so maybe a Western involving vigilante justice?

Yeah, that's what I was originally thinking of doing. The professor was so vague on how he wanted this paper delivered...I think he wants us to explain how a more general genre (like action) changed over time, historically or in the film techniques used ....but I don't know how to move into talking about martial arts as a sub-genre from there. This paper only has to be 3-5 pages in length, I don't know why it's intimidating me so much.
