I believe, as of right now, Michael Cerveris, Sydney Lucas, and Judy Kuhn's contracts are all ending the beginning of next month. They still could extend, of course. Do any of them have any known upcoming projects? Beth Malone I think extended through March.
I would assume if they haven't already extended that we would have heard something by now? At least I would assume and you know what they say about assuming.
I asked a cast member at the stage door, and they told me they thought Michael and Judy were staying into the new year, but they didn't know exactly when.
BroadwayWorld has just learned that Tony Award nominee Sydney Lucas will play her final performance in Broadway's Fun Homeon Sunday, October 4. Her understudy, Gabriella Pizzolo, will take over the role of 'Small Alison' beginning October 6, 2015
Michael Cerveris just tweeted that he is extending in Fun Home well into 2016 but that he would miss some days in the second half of October due to a prior filming commitment.
I saw it just last weekend with Gabriella, and I was extremely disappointed with her performance. I saw it in April with Sydney who was so wonderful, and this girl just could not live up to what Sydney did. Whereas Sydney became Alison, Gabriella merely speaks and sings the lines. If you've seen it with Sydney, I would recommend staying away for Gabriella. She's just not that good.
I respectfully disagree. I saw Gabby's first performance as Small Alison after seeing Sydney a month before. 6 weeks later I caught Sydney again. They were both fantastic. I think its a great choice.
Is Lucas leaving by choice or has she aged out of the role?
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
