I also don't think Fanny needs an alternate......but whatever the powers that be decide. (obviously)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

By the time FUNNY GIRL finally arrived on Broadway in 1964, 21 year old Streisand was already an Emmy Award nominee (for her guest appearance on THE JUDY GARLAND SHOW), had already appeared on every major entertainment show including THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW, and was a Grammy Award winner for her first album, having 4 albums in stores by the time FUNNY GIRL opened. She had also appeared several times in VOGUE and other major publications. Streisand’s name was above the title for right reason. She was literally hours away from being a global superstar at that time.

Only if she's singing the film's arrangements.
But like for the Sheridan Smith production, I expect them to arrange the vocals around her specific talents.
Even if the film arrangements are used, only the big, mainstream numbers are in the "oh, God, do I have the belt for this tonight?" sphere. It was totally designed to be singable while still showcasing Streisand's talent.
That all being said, Feldstein is just a big enough name to demand an alternate if she wants one.

Completely not true at all? Shoshana left Broadway for over a decade to dedicate time to her singing career all around the world."
Actually possibly very true. I’ve never heard of her until her run in Waitress. I’m sure I’m not the only one either.
For her worldwide singing career, what songs did she sing- theatre covers or original music? Who attended the shows- theatre goers or non theatre goers? Just because she left theatre for a singing career doesn’t mean those outside of theatre know about her.
Love me some Shoshana Bean, but here in the U.S., where FUNNY GIRL will be playing, she’s a niche artist. The large chunk of her fan base is the Broadway community and the cabaret circuit. She’s not a mainstream name that the average American is even aware of. Same with Jessica Vosk, Jessie Mueller, and countless others. Heck, even the majority of the audience of the long-running series YOUNGER are unaware of Sutton Foster’s Broadway career. Broadway doesn’t fuel into the mainstream masses as many on here assume. We follow Broadway so we are familiar with performers. The rest of the world truly doesn’t give a toot. I work in the entertainment industry. Alongside major players. Not one was aware of this FUNNY GIRL revival until I mentioned it. Of course, this was before the heavy press launched when everything was confirmed and the articles started coming out along with AMERICAN CRIME STORY: IMPEACHMENT.

I said this the other day to a group of friends. I think it’s selfish of Producers and the higher ups to put tickets on sale and then after the fact, announce an alternate. But, it’s all about the money. I sincerely hope they offer refunds if this rumor turns out to be true.
SeatGeek already allows refunds and exchanges for this show. Also, Beanie’s name is above the title, so they’re required to offer refunds if she’s not performing, regardless of policy.
Not everyone can be Ariana Grande. I think Shoshana has done okay broadening her appeal for someone who wasn't in a long-running TV show or mainstream movie. I'm not saying she could sell a notable number of tickets as an alternate but I think she's better known than someone who has only done theater. Like, she's at least as well known as most of the people who did that more recent Wicked concert on PBS. But I wouldn't count on any of them to personally carry a revival (as far as ticket sales go) either.
Of course, this is a pointless debate as she isn't even the one rumored to be the alternate.
