I heard that Micaela Diamond (Cher Show) may take over Beanie's role for the Funny Girl matinees. I already brought a ticket for the last preview. May this rumor be true? Only time will tell.

Of course I have a ticket for a Wednesday matinee ugh. Would love to see Michaela but was really looking forward to beanie.
She talks about Fanny and sings some here.
That would be perfection. She's wonderful.
Ahh, part of a conversation from a random person posted online. Such thrilling news! I’m SURE it’s true!!

This sounds awesome!!!
I wonder why for Beanie though? Vocal rest?
Among other things. I hope she has an alternate that is announced before the show begins.
After seeing her in THE CHER SHOW the first thing I said was get her in FUNNY GIRL immediately!! She would be incredible and totally different from Beanie (which you need with something like this).

Oh completely agree! I'm sure if this rumor gains traction, they'll release her alternate soon. If it's not Micaela.

Seems odd to do a “no name” alternate for a show that clearly needs a star. Throw a Shoshana Bean for the theater hungry crowd like Donna Murphy. No discredit to Diamond.

I would definitely buy a ticket to see Micaela.
If it is Miss Diamond, how can I switch my ticket? I need to see her

For what it's worth, we're all randos to someone else.
I, for one, would be disappointed. I've already purchased a ticket - but I really want to see Beanie.
On the other hand, due to a group trip only a week or two previous to my own personal trip, maybe I'll get to see each of them! Ahhhhhh.....wouldn't that be terrific!

I'd easily need to buy tickets to see both. No other answer.

I can only see matinees due to traveling to and from NYC. I do have tickets for a Wednesday matinee but if the general consensus is that Beanie is really good, I would consider seeing a Sunday matinee if Beanie is doing them and not her alternate.
Love Micaela!!!
Alternate and/or understudy I think she would do a great job!

Is it common for an alternate or undestudy to be a dramatically different performer from the actual lead? Shoshana is great but the age difference between her and Beanie is quite large. To me it *feels* like that the show would have such a different energy with Bean instead of Beanie (sorry, I couldn't resist it), to the extent that it will feel like a different show altogether.

Typically, no. But I think people are imagining a scenario similar to when Donna Murphy was the alternate Dolly for Bette Midler. In that instance, Donna wasn’t really treated as an understudy, but as a star in her own right who, while not as big of a draw as Bette, the more hardcore theatre fans could be excited about. The expectation was that people would buy tickets specifically to see Donna do it, which many of us did.
That being said, I don’t know if this situation would be treated the same. An alternate of Shoshana Bean’s status would certainly have to be. I’m not sure about Micaela, who is fantastic but only has the one credit.
Yeah, I agree. This is not a Bette/Donna situation. I don't think this show wants the alternate to be known or really popular.

What is this "status level" that some people here seem to think that Shoshana Bean has? Compared to her, Beanie Feldstein IS the equivalent of Streisand! No one beyond the theatre stan world has ever heard of Shoshana Bean.
I also don't think Fanny needs an alternate......but whatever the powers that be decide. (obviously)
