Same thing happened with Rocky
Even though it was struggling, more tickets were released. Everyone scratched their heads and than a closing notice went up.
Pinto, I wish I could remember who has your infamous quote at the bottom of their message screen, because I am not going back to hunt for it. But OK.
If you really want to understand the mentality that has OTT still running, let me make another suggestion. Get your copy of the Tony broadcast up and fast forward to the end of the OTT performance. See that silly looking man in the audience with the R. P. McMurphy smile and the sailor cap? That's what you're dealing with. Having a lot of money does not necessarily correlate with having a lot of sense.
There is no Nurse Ratched assigned to Broadway producers.

Most of my favorite shows are flops...oh well. Oy vey! I am thrilled I got to see this 5 times. Whoever missed this, they missed out. It was a magical night at the theatre. Although some people think this is all fluff, I thought it was actually deep and empowering to anyone who has been told what to do or what to be. A true glamorous show with stunning gowns and sets.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I was very entertained and pleased when I saw the show. Yes, subtlety was not in Vanessa Hudgens' vocabulary, but overall it was light and fun and the sets were STUNNING.
Sad to see another one close so soon.

Pinto, On the Town will likely post its closing notice soon if the numbers are low.
On a side note, why did you come back here again? It was a lovely couple weeks without your trolling of the boards here.
"ON THE TOWN actually just extended to December 3rd this afternoon."
HOORAY for On The Town extending! It is really turning out to be the little revival that could!
What's next for the Simon?
In general, all flops since 2009...Hairspray was the last hit lasting 7 years 2002-2009
***All the Way ***was a limited run but recouped and won best play & actor Cranston

lol i love that so many people noticed I was gone for a few weeks. It was probably boring on the boards while i was studying for finals and on vacation :)
and i don't troll
"HOORAY for On The Town extending! It is really turning out to be the little revival that could!"
It didn't "extend". It's always been an open run. As was stated earlier in the thread, it just put a new block of tickets on sale which has almost no relationship to how long a struggling show like OTT will actually run. Don't get me wrong, I loved it and wished it was doing better and packing them in, but reality is reality.

Oh. Ok. Too bad. I was hoping people would love the Tonys number enough to get tickets.
Gigi is closing?! *gasp*
That Tony performance was truly painful to watch--Vanessa Hudgens seemed like she was on speed and had inhaled helium before going on stage. Terrible.
And there is NO WAY On The Town lasts until December 3. NO WAY.
Can't wait to see Allegiance in November though! :)
"The Neil Simon claims its latest musical victim
As Sweeney Todd would say "Next"
Consecutive Musical Flops
Catch Me If You Can
Scandalous
Big Fish
The Last Ship
Gigi"
To be fair, those shows likely would have flopped regardless of what theater they were in. Does anyone really think Scandalous would have been a smash if it had just opened at the Schubert??
The Simon is a big house that sits a few blocks away from the real Broadway cluster. It's a tough house nowadays to fill.
I thought this production of Gigi was a charming night at the theatre and that got rather unfairly maligned by critics. Sad for the folks I know involved with it, but this certainly wasn't a surprise.
I have to say that I didn't like one single thing about this production, and felt that it lowered the bar considerably for stupid/witless writing, bad adaptation by hack writers/directors of good work by good writers, cheap production values, cheap orchestration, and pandering to a teenage mindset utterly devoid of curiosity about literature, psychology, sophistication, and anything remotely "other."
That said, good luck to the cast and crew on their next jobs. I hope you can all hitch your wagons to something better.

So you are saying all the musicals in question are all dogs
I disagree but everyone has a different opinion
I don't remember. Im curious what makes the producers want to keep this show open even if they are losing money
No you remember. You went on and on about how OTT wouldn't get nominated and that gigi or side show would take it's spot instead. Then you had the nerve to say it would close before the tony awards. You're just too immature to admit you were wrong. Definitely isn't the first time you've pulled this crap.

Very Happy to hear OTT selling through dec 3
sorry to hear Gigi is closing for sake of those involved
I have blocked phillypinto and already enjoy this board much more again
remember:
PLEASE DON'T FEED THE TROLLS
...by insulting and degrading him you are saving him the money of paying a trash talking hooker to insult and humiliate him.
..trash talking hookers need to make a living, too!!!
Too bad that it didn't get the audience this brilliant show deserves. Shows with terrible singing, terrible scores and uninteresting stories have won Tonys this year...and this jewel will close. Oy vey! Showbiz.
To quote the show itself. IT'S A BORE. Truly it was. I went in wanting to love it, as I've always loved the film, but was simply lacking. Easily my least favorite musical of the season.
Tell me what other shows you have found to be boring, I'll go see them immediately! And tell me which ones you loved and I'll save my money.
Is muscle23ftl a side persona of AfterEight's? The style and viewpoint seem very similar (although muscle is, admittedly, a more aggressive poster).
