Had a dozen or so copies near me... still quite a stack left. How many of these did they print?!?
I got one for 2 dollars last week in San Diego. They were in the back on the clearance table. I was very surprised to see them. I tried searching for a thread to bump but couldn't find a thread on the book and wasn't sure if it was a nation wide thing or not.

I bought two at Union Square this evening (around 5?) and there were still a bunch left...they were on a 2$ clearance cart on the fourth floor, very close to the check-out counter on that floor.
Thanks so much for the tip, the.hard.part!
Yes, just got one at my local store. Sad ending to a beautiful show, and to see the amount of these books stacked in the clearance area? Sigh. Damn, man,

Oh shoot I looked over the $2 section but maybe there was another cart that I missed? I was in a few hours earlier. Maybe I'll stop by again tomorrow just in case! Thanks

Danielle, When I bought mine today, I first looked in the bargain section. I didn't see it. I asked the clerk about it and after looking on the computer she took me to an area in the back of the store, that I would have never had found. They were in a stack under a table.
Damn, and I thought finding this for $10 still shrinkwrapped at the East 86th Barnes & Noble two weeks ago was a steal.
I just realized- if they're selling all this stock for dirt cheap (this is less than it costs to print the book without even writing it) prehaps this book is being discontinued? Which is really unfortunate I wish the comet would continue to shine but I guess it's burning out-- and badly.

Very few Broadway books like this stay in print or get second printings, and there's even less reason to keep a lot of inventory of a book about a show that no longer exists on Broadway.

The thing about the Great Comet book is that I never saw it in the store - I would have leafed through it - until heading down after calling my local Barnes & Noble to find out about the $2 clearance yesterday. The guy who answered the phone said there were 11 books left, and they "wouldn't hold it," which made me chuckle - because the odds of people lining up to get a copy of a closed Broadway coffee table book in California were zero.
Seeing the stacks of shrink-wrapped books on the clearance rack, more than any other book there, was a bit sad, a bit symbolic of the misguided commercial decisions by the producers (and in this case, the book publisher).
But I loved the show, perhaps a little bit more because it was a flop that has essentially vanished except in my memory. And Dave Malloy has influenced my recent reading habits. I grabbed the Comet book and am in the middle of Moby-Dick (one of those novels I long meant to read, but which I was partially inspired to actually tackle because I know he's written a musical about it).
Herman Melville died a failure, too.

That's strange; maybe they moved it to the $2 section, possibly after people (like ArtMan) had a hard time finding it? I hope you track it down!

I got one! I was looking at the rack and cart on the 3rd floor and you said you got it from the 4th floor. I didn't realize there was more clearance in a separate location. Thanks so much! And thanks again the.hard.part for the heads up.

Now that I've had a chance to look through it, I have a question for you guys - what do you like/dislike about this book or any other Broadway books? I work in publishing and will be assisting on something similar to this soon, so I'm curious how you all think it could be better or something that would make you want to buy more (back when it was full price)?
Updated On: 3/13/18 at 02:28 PMThanks for the tip, I bought a copy for myself and 2 as presents for friends. In case anyone wants one the 86th Street location still has a lot available.
Thanks for the tip. Picked one up at the store in San Jose, CA. Can't really go wrong for $2 (plus the salesperson gave me 10% off), and I am interested to read it! The store had 9 on the shelf, and it was in the regular Theater section with all the full priced books, not in the Bargain section. It wasn't marked "special price" or anything, so there is no way to know it is on sale.
Thank you for the tip! I got mine at the Rittenhouse Square location in Philly and there was one non shrink wrapped one left. When I went to pay, the guy at the register and I briefly talked about how sad it is the show didn’t run longer.
Another thank you from Boulder, Colorado. I called and had one put on reserve, but told the clerk that I actually needed another two. He said "no problem, there are eight left - you should be good when you get here". So, I went, found the "clearance table" and grabbed another three (so four total), including two shrinkwrapped. And got the 10% member discount, too. While in line, a person comes up behind me - he's got all the rest! He says he also read about the deal here on BWW.

There was a stack of ~50 of them at the Tribeca one tonight (almost all were still shrink wrapped). Wonder what happens to all the unsold ones?
Anyway, huge thanks for the heads up, as well as all the updates and tips and tricks! I thought I missed my chance when I didn't stop by on Sunday. This wasn't even on my radar but it's a cool little souvenir to remember the show by and at such a bargain price!

Anyone have an extra copy they would be willing to part with? Sadly the Orlando, FL locations I have gone to have them all "boxed up" to send back and either won't or can't get them out of the boxes from the back.

If you have Amazon Prime it is $11.90 with free shipping, probably similar in cost to someone shipping to you.

Off to Urinetown!
Snagged the remaining 4 copies at my local B&N yesterday afternoon - all non-shrink wrapped. Thanks for the heads up! I would have otherwise never known about this awesome deal.

Not Great Comet related....but another bargain book I became aware of. I was at Dollar Tree (dollar store) today and in their book section they have a Fiddler On The Roof book with the full text and lyrics from the original production. It is not as nice or elaborate as The Great Comet book, but for those who are interested in such a book, you would probably like it. And the price, of course, is a $1.00. I live in Florida, but assume Dollar Tree stores are state wide. I just looked on Amazon and they are selling this book for $39.50, so a $1 is really a bargain.
