Whoever refers to Bernadette Peters as "Bernie" should not be allowed to buy a ticket to see her.

I am so not looking forward to Bernadette sobbing and croaking her way through Hello Dolly! She has a pretty fossilized act by now and it almost always involves sobbing her way through a Sondheim torch song. It's going to be Sunday in the Park with Dolly.

I always laugh when people act like Peters won't be able to sing the role. Are we going to act like Carol Channing wasn't a horrible singer? Also, it's not like Midler's voice is in great shape. The role requires a comedienne, which has always been what Bernadette does best (aside from shedding a few tears, which should be touching during Parade). I saw her live a couple of months ago and her voice is in great shape. She'll be great, and it's always great to see such a legend, especially in such a role as Dolly Levi.
Btw, Bernadette HATES being called Bernie.

I am in the planning stages right now to be in NYC Jan 20 - 22, and was wondering what to see on Sunday afternoon. Is she doing a Sunday matinee that day?
