Good morning everyone,
From what I have been reading and hearing, it seems that every casting director has told someone that she is perfect for the role of Tracy. I am wondering if that is just their way of trying to keep us calm.....or hopeful. I guess the best thing to do, is just keep a positive attitude and wish each other good luck. So Good Luck everybody!

rehearsals start in July and shooting starts in september.
Oh, good! That means they can keep us on pins and needles even longer. Darn these showbiz types!
Yeah. I just really want to let this one go. But I need a name to do that once and for all.

I wonder how the actors on Broadway and the Tour deal with this. I continually thought about it went Phantom, Producers, and RENT came out. Or even the Original Broadway actors..
Something kind of funny, if you've seen "HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL" then you'll laugh..
during "Stick to the Status Quo!", there is a (larger) girl who sings "I like to pop, hip-hop (or something) and then a guy goes "IS THAT EVEN LEGAL?"

when Tracy is found the world will know lol i'm sure it will be weel known itll be everywhere probably. Not everywhere but theatre n moie places!
Im 15 years old and when I heard that they were making a movie I was siked. From the time the show was out I always knew I wanted to play Tracy Turnblad. There aren't a lot of parts out there in the world for the "bigger, shorter" girls. I miss the first set of auditions, because I found out after but when I saw you could send in a tape I was estatic. i sent in my photo and resume and with in 24 hours they wanted to hear me sing. Within 2 days my tape was out and all I could do is wait. They received my tape and that day (which was the next day because I over nighted it) I got another email about a scene. The casting director call me with some pointers and said they were very happy that I auditioned with one of the better voices and looks. He was shocked that I am only 15. We talked a lot not only about the movie but what I have done in the past and what I am doing now (like working with Jimmy Locust on this dancing and acting troup about bullying called No Hate But Harmony and shows). After that, I sent in my tape and now all I can do is wait. All I know is that they received it and will be looking at is soon. This was my first big audition besides Jimmy and I can only take the experience that I have had with me for the future. Who knows, maybe I am better on stage, that was one thing he said, it is totally different.
Break a leg to everyone else who auditioned!
Anyone can email me!
great story... good luck!
So. Quick update. The shooting schedule ( means the casting should be done) is up . Tenatively, Hairspray starts shooting this September in TO to complete in DEC. I know a couple of the production team and will update further as info becomes available.
Marc Shaiman is gonna drop from overwork tho! 1st He's got Martin Short's Fame Becomes Me in May in which he also appears, He is Exec Prod on Hairspray w his spouse and oh yeah "Catch Me If You Can".
I can only quote May West:

where do you find the shooting schedule?
sabrelady, at firt i read it and I thought you meant Marc was dropping out of the production all together.. I almost had a mild heart attack.. but then i read it again.
I love that man. he will make the movie wonderful - cause the newbie production team will come up with some BS.. and ya'know marc will be like "NUH-UH not in this show!"
As I said- I know some people on the below the line production team. Presently working on another New Line production in the city which completes shooting this month so after that one wraps and finishes off whatever tidying up ( ie book keeping returns etc) they will start preproduction for Hairspray prob no later than jun 1st. Could even over lap but that is kinda rough. When I know more I will post.

So are you saying casting is complete and the calls have been made??? I was told in Vegas by the casting dierctor that it will take another 4 to 6 weeks before things wrap up and calls are made making it around the 1st week of May or so

thats what I heard as well.
I am NOT saying ALL the casting has been completed only that the time line has been set and whatever decisons that are being made are being made NOW. One item for example I am waiting for the the naming of the DOP since that HUGELY influences how a show looks/is shot. ( also when that happens I will also know what camera crew will be working on it which to me is impt cos it means some of my friends wil have JOBS!!) There is a lot more to casting a film that just the performers.
thanks for these updates sabrelady! keep us posted.
The girl who is playing Tracy on Broadway (Shannon Durig) is going this week for a screen test. Last I heard it was between her and another girl.

how do you know this? Where did you hear this?
Shannon used to go to my dance studio. Her parents keep in touch with the owners.
I would be curious to know who the other girl is...and I wish they would just make a final decision allready!
