And so it begins... the first one to announce it won't return:

Glad that I saw it but sad it closes
The set design was incredible to say the least
Hangmen to Close#3
Posted: 3/20/20 at 7:31pmIt was a wonderful play and I'm glad I saw it before it closed. Very ambiguous ending that had me wondering many things.

Posted: 3/20/20 at 7:47pmSucks!! It would have done well at the Tonys! Hopefully it goes to the West End or something.
Hangmen to Close#5
Posted: 3/20/20 at 7:55pmIt’s already been on The West End. It even got an NT Live Broadcast.

It originated there and won the Olivier for Best Play in 2016.

What a shame. I was lucky enough to catch the second preview, and really enjoyed it. Sad that it (presumably) won't be Tony-eligible if and when they happen. The scenic design was a shoe-in for at least a nomination.

Did anyone catch the previews AND see it Off-Broadway? Similar staging, but just a new cast?! I guess it doesn't matter, since I'll never get to know, but... curious nonetheless.

considering how much people were clamoring to deduce which shows would close up shop, I'm surprised the response hasn't been larger.

I think the reason more people aren't responding here is that it was already being discussed on the other thread. By the time this thread was created, it was already old news.

Is this broadcast available anywhere?

hater, slightly different cast - Dan Stevens, who was great - and the staging is the same just slightly more epic. Like the first scene happens and then ascends into the fly space.

I saw the NTL cast vs. the Broadway one and much preferred the Broadway cast. Mark Addy is more believable as the officious-but-pitiable Harry, and I thought Tracie Bennett was also much more believable as the kind of guy Harry would have married. Dan Stevens had more of the glib snake oil charm and good looks that would make Mooney's con-game on Harry's daughter believable.

Well, that's certainly the case under normal circumstances, but they could easily change the eligibility rules if they were so inclined. I guess if you consider awards primarily as a promotional vehicle, it doesn't make sense to include shows that won't officially open. But if you want to reward achievement, you could make them eligible. Then again, "Hangmen" only ran for 13 previews, so it's doubtful many nominators/voters would have seen it.
Sad circumstance all around ![]()

A fantastic play and production. Such a pleasure to spend a couple hours in the hands of a smart and sure comedy. Had a feeling it might pick up steam before Tonys as well.
Also had a feeling they may not be able to weather this. Those that had just started previews likely didn't have enough in the bank to sit paying folks without ticket revenue.
Such a huge shame.

Sad to see this news but inevitable I guess. I was excited to see Dan Stevens on stage.
