I know I already mentioned that Topol is really frickin' old, but seriously...he must be almost like...75. I mean, Jesus. Isn't the role a little demanding for a 75-year-old dude to be taking on nightly?

When a tour came here a few years ago, he was not very good. He seemed bored and just walking through the part. I wouldn't want to see him do it again.
The new Topol Fiddler tour hasn't even had auditions yet, so this thread is a bit premature
Dean: Can I tell you something?
Lorraine: That depends on what it is.
Dean: I think you're really really pretty.
Lorraine: (after a pause) Ok, you can tell me that.
He's in 'Gigi' at the Open Air Theatre Regents Park in London at the moment with Millicent Martin.
A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!''
Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'
I saw Topol in FIDDLER in January of 1991 when the Pre-Broadway tour stopped in Philadelphia. I loved it! But even back then, that was 20 years after the film was made, so he was a little long in the tooth. I can't even imagine what he's doing now. But then again, Carol Channing played Dolly well into the 90's, and I was there to see it, so what can ya do???
I saw it back in '89 here in L.A. with Topol at the Ahmanson. He walked through the part back then, until he got to "To Life!" Then he suddenly came alive and was focused. My theory was that he was drinking actual BOOZE in the tavern scene (*joke*). The rest of his performance was excellent that night. But he sure had a long "warm up" to get there.
But that was almost 20 years ago! I can't imagine what he's like in it now.

My friend attended the audition for the upcoming tour today and it was so crowded with Equity actors that none of the non-Equity actors (and she implied that even some Equity members and alternates didn't) get seen.
He spent most of last year touring Australia and New Zealand in FIDDLER. Yes he is old but not nearly as old and tired as the sets were. He owns the sets and if you want him to do the show you have to hire his sets as well. These sets were made for a production of the show he did in Tel Aviv many, many moons ago and should been sent to the tip shortly thereafter.
He is still doing it? Oh dear. I saw him do it just a few years ago at the Wilshire Theater here in Los Angeles. He was fine... but it was a very, very, tired looking production.
