i quit New York/Vulture years ago, thrilled that I will be able to access her regularly from now on. Shaw is for my money the most insightful critic there is right now, even if I disagree with her sometimes. Great news.

She's one of the best, and likely the best, theatre critics writing today. I'm glad for her if it's a good move career wise, but I'll miss her work if it's inaccessible since The New Yorker's articles are so often hidden behind a paywall for me.

In my experience, one can access a limited number of New Yorker articles before hitting a paywall threshold and there are ways to get around that once it occurs.

Hopefully her replacement will be somewhat more competent.

Oh wow, JSquared2 with a needlessly bitchy comment. What a shock, the one-trick pony did its trick.
Shaw is wonderful- and I'm glad she will be continuing on to the New Yorker.

I love reading her articles, what a shame.

The best theatre critic I’ve ever read. Love her work every time.

While I’m sad to see her go, as I still subscribe to NY Mag, they always hire pretty great critics, even if for a short time. Sara Holdren was also my favorite critic working when she was at Vulture.

Such a short lived tenure at Vulture! I adore Helen’s reviews. Sad to see her go but glad to see her moving up.

New York Mag hardly mentions theater anymore. The last two issues we got (we just canceled after 20+ years) had zero theater recommendations in their "25 things to check out" column.
We found all sorts of great Off Broadway treasures back in the day thanks to NY Mag. I wish there was still something like that out there.

Jackson McHenry and others regularly write about theatre in Vulture, too, and wrote one of the major Rudin followup stories. Theatre is also regularly part of the Approval Matrix. But if you are mostly focusing on print, then that's a "you" problem and not a "them" problem.
Helen is a great critic who will be an asset to the New Yorker/Conde Nast.
