Posted: 3/22/10 at 9:36pmI can't be the only theatre queen that squealed a little in delight, can I? So happy Stephen finally gave in and let a theatre be named after him. Maybe he knew it would mean as much to us as it would for him.

I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!!!!
Sondheim has done more for Broadway and the Broadway musical than most and I am so thrilled that he is being given this honor.

Posted: 3/22/10 at 9:39pmFINALLY! It's about time, for some reason "The Stephen Sondheim Theater" does sound right, hopefully I'll get used to it. I'm surprised they would name the newest of all theater after him.

Well, After Eight, Tennessee Williams's centennial is coming up, so maybe he'll get his theater then.

Posted: 3/22/10 at 9:44pmI highly doubt it. After all, how could Tennessee Williams' contribution to the theatre be deemed comparable to Sondheim's?

Well that just elicited a gay gasp. In a wonderful day filled with listening to the Symphony Space streaming Sondheim celebration, watching Sondheim recordings (without even thinking about it, I put Into the Woods in late last night), and generally celebrating the awesomeness that is Stephen Sondheim, this takes the cake. Only, it's not cake. It's a hat. Or a meat pie.
On another note, I still can't get over how annoying it is to see Webber's terrifying mug glued right next to Sondheim. I honestly didn't know until today that they share the same birthday. Which is only fitting, as I consider ALW to be the Antisondheim or Bizzaro-Sondheim as I refer to him.

Their faces beside each other make them look like, dare I say it, Massachusetts' same-sex marriage poster couple.
Anyhoo, let the guessing game begin: what will the Roundabout do (slash borrow or import) to inaugurate The Stephen Sondheim Theatre come the beginning of the 2010-11 Broadway season?
Hmmm... ANYONE CAN WHISTLE transfer from City Center? Or a new production of FOLLIES?

It just sounds so right.
"Where's that show playing?"
"Oh, it's playing at the Sondheim Theatre."
