ugh, look at me, "Steve"...like we used to play racquet ball or something.
"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert
I can't be the only theatre queen that squealed a little in delight, can I? So happy Stephen finally gave in and let a theatre be named after him. Maybe he knew it would mean as much to us as it would for him.

Sondheim has done more for Broadway and the Broadway musical than most and I am so thrilled that he is being given this honor.
David walked into the valley
With a stone clutched in his hand
He was only a boy
But he knew someone must take a stand
There will always be a valley
Always mountains one must scale
There will always be perilous waters
Which someone must sail

FINALLY! It's about time, for some reason "The Stephen Sondheim Theater" does sound right, hopefully I'll get used to it. I'm surprised they would name the newest of all theater after him.
Well that just elicited a gay gasp. In a wonderful day filled with listening to the Symphony Space streaming Sondheim celebration, watching Sondheim recordings (without even thinking about it, I put Into the Woods in late last night), and generally celebrating the awesomeness that is Stephen Sondheim, this takes the cake. Only, it's not cake. It's a hat. Or a meat pie.
On another note, I still can't get over how annoying it is to see Webber's terrifying mug glued right next to Sondheim. I honestly didn't know until today that they share the same birthday. Which is only fitting, as I consider ALW to be the Antisondheim or Bizzaro-Sondheim as I refer to him.
Their faces beside each other make them look like, dare I say it, Massachusetts' same-sex marriage poster couple.
Anyhoo, let the guessing game begin: what will the Roundabout do (slash borrow or import) to inaugurate The Stephen Sondheim Theatre come the beginning of the 2010-11 Broadway season?
Hmmm... ANYONE CAN WHISTLE transfer from City Center? Or a new production of FOLLIES?
