I have never seen her in a show and have only seen clips of her singing things like "She Used To Be Mine" from "Waitress". It is obvious she can handle the singing part of the role, but I wondered how good an actress she is on stage. Years ago, Linda Eder sang wonderfully in "Jekyll & Hyde" but it was said she was not really that good an actress. Is Ms. Bareilles a decent actress and do you think she could handle a role in a musical she did not write?
As someone who’s seen her 3 times on Broadway, including her take on the Baker’s Wife from Into The Woods, she’s a really good actress! She can deliver a great monologue or an 11 o’clock number!

I found her to be excellent in both Into The Woods and Waitress.

Astonishing.
As Ben Brantley said,
"Allow me to echo re "Into the Woods": There have been many talented interpreters of the Baker's Wife since Joanna Gleason brilliantly originated the role. But Sara Bareilles is the first I've seen to match Gleason's human complexity, while providing her own free-wheeling spin."

She is very adept at comedy and I remember her saying in a Today Show interview that she did theatre growing up and her goal was to be a stage actress before she became a singer/songwriter.
Shes also one of the co-leads in Girls5Eva.
She’s a very natural actress. Grounded, without being stilted; free-spirited, without feeling aimless; and a deeply emotional shading to her voice. It’s clear from her songwriting that she loves musical theatre because the songs she writes have such a sense of character about them, and that carries over into her acting.
she's excellent. she was beautiful in into the woods.
I feel like you can tell in how she sings. She emotes. But she’s fab. I’d see her do anything.
She’s my favorite Jenna in Waitress. She was the MVP in an excellent cast of Into the Woods (without Victoria Clark’s master-class performance, she could have won the Tony). Sara is a natural actor with comedic chops and a singular voice. I’d love to see her onstage again soon.

I thought she was wonderful as the Baker's Wife. I actually enjoyed her performance more than Stephanie J. Block's.
