Love it.
Hopefully we'll all get our regular faces back tomorrow.
I like people to think I look like my avatar, so then if they see me in public making an idiot of myself, they don't know it's me.
this is a problem I have all the time.
I'm in too!
Happy Birthday Ethel!
I love everyone's pictures so much.
Paljoey - Yes the Lp (as you noted in a subsequent message) has more material a but I am am using the australian CD edition. It never came out on CD in the U.S. and I think teh australian CD is long gone now.
I think you will be most interested in the Merman interview segments which have not been broadcast since Feb 1984 (the Sunday after her death we re-ran them in a special tribute.) It's not a great intrerview but what comes through is her warmth - a quality that many people didn't think Miss Merman had.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
PM me if you're interested in Ethel Merman: A Musical Autobiography
The program is on now for those who want to hear it.

There's a great photograph of her with Sandra Church in Gypsy on the back of the current edition (Spring 2009) of The Sondheim Review that I've never seen before.
And in it, it's her eyes that are doing the communicating.
I wasn't aware of her birthday, but I happened to be listening to her CALL ME MADAM tracks the past few days. I found it packaged with the Dinah Shore/Cast Recording for only $1 (not the highest quality but not bad for $1). That score really has some gems!

What modern roles would Ethel have been suited for?
I know years ago she refused to see SWEENEY TODD. "Who wants to see a show about a guy who cuts people up and bakes them in pies?" she reportedly asked. But had she been 20 years younger, she would have made a great Mrs. Lovett.
Ethel as Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street?

In response to that question, I'll bring up the oft mentioned pairing of Ethel and Mary Martin as Elphaba and Glinda in Wicked.
What about Mamma Morton in Chicago?
