Hey everyone,
I'm going to the Phantom of the Opera on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre in NYC for the first time in my life! I was wondering if anyone had any experience or advice to give me about possibly getting an actor's autograph. I've read that people give a note to the stage door manager before the show, but does that actually work? If people have given a note to the stage manager before the show, do you like knock on the stage door because I'm assuming it's closed. Anyone who has had experience on this and would let me know how to go about doing this would be awesome!!
Thanks!!
Go to the stage door (Phantom shares its with Once; around the corner). Smile a lot. If you recognize an actor and you enjoyed their performance, say so. Ask if they can sign your playbill. Have fun!

So don't write a letter to give to the stage door manager before the show to let them know that I want an autograph after the show?
No. Just go to the stage door. You probably won't be alone.
(And I don't think you can far enough in there to knock on the Majestic stage door anyway, but I could be wrong.)
Generally, all you need to do is go to the stage door afterwards. Most Broadway theatres have barricades set up for that reason.
^Just be aware that the stage door for The Majestic is on 45th St, not 44th St. It is just east of The Milford Plaza's 45th St. entrance. (Someone please correct me if this has changed.) Have your Playbill and a sharpie ready!

Thanks everyone for the advice!! I will go to the stage door right away after the show then! Thanks for telling me where the door is too!

1 more thing! Do you think the actors will still come out of the stage door if I'm at a matinee performance??
They're pretty much just as likely to come out from a matinee, do be aware that not all actors come out the stage door though.

Just a warning, last year when I was visiting a friend in the show pretty much everyone in the cast exited through the house and directly onto 44th, not through the actual stage door. I don't know if there was a specific reason for it at the time or if that's the norm, but just something to think about.

AND, if there's a specific person whose siggie you are seeking, and they DON'T come out, you can always mail your program to the theater and ask for them to sign it and return it. You'd want to make sure you also send a SASE along with it. But this often takes time, so don't expect it back in a week or two.

If you're going to be there anyway, be prepared and drop it off at the stage door with the Playbill/SASE all ready to go with Post-It with that person's name on it.
if you are trying to meet a specific actor, send a note to them via the Theatre telling them you will be seeing the show and let them know that you hope to see them at the stage door. That way, the actor knows you are going to be there. a lot of ensemble members and actors in lesser roles skip the stage door because they think no one wants their autograph, so if they know you'll be out there, you might have a better chance.
