"Let Me Entertain You" is not Bernstein/Sondheim...
Arggg! Sorry, the annoying commercial has me in such a state that I've confused Sondheim's early collaborators. Styne/Sondheim, of course. Mea culpa!

TonyV - shouldn't that be "Lea culpa"?....
:
Leave the poor girl alone. I'm not a fan - by any stretch - but jeesh. Blame the fans and her pr folks for making so many sick of her name.
I think it's stupid to mess with perfection (i.e., Barbra in "Funny Girl'). For that reason, Lea may be thanking her lucky stars for letting someone else get the part.

It's Lea, Lea, like Lia.
Stop mispronouncing her name, all of you, or take a pia!

And then the rest of America EXPECTS HER TO BE FANNY BRICE.
Nay, they DEMAND IT.

Posted: 8/4/11 at 6:21amI almost always find your posts humorous and entertaining, but come on man, no one is forcing you to open threads about her. She is popular right now. She is a young Broadway star that has found her moment in pop-culture history. Eventually the schlock that is Glee will be forgotten, and she will likely come back to Broadway. She should also be welcome on Broadway, unless of course you have suddenly jumped on Hunter and Cuddles' band wagon. Let the hate go; and if you don't want to read about her, then don't read about her.

I don't watch Glee, so I've seen very little of her.
When she was a child, I saw her live in "Ragtime." She had three lines and clung to Tateh like a barnacle. So she didn't bother me then. Although she may have bothered Tateh. I didn't see her in Spring Awakening.
I did see her glide down the aisles of the Tony Awards singing, "Don't Rain On My Parade" with a rather whiny, little-girl voice. She was essentially a Muppet Babies version of Barbra Streisand.
And that's pretty much it, other than the 300 million times she's referred to, revered, and reviled here on BWW, every single day.
I don't think she'd make a good Fanny Brice, unless, as mentioned, Broadway needs a Muppet Babies version of Funny Girl. I don't think they do.
I know I don't.
I hope she has a long, varied, and successful career ... out of my periphery.

A few words in defense of her...
First of all, if I were a girl of her age, with her looks, and her talents, I don't know what role other than Fanny Brice could possibly be my dream role. That said, she's been cast as a Streisand wannabe on a popular TV show. In that show, she's a stereotypical HS diva, the type many folks on this board probably hated when they were in HS. Her character is annoying on several levels. Someone not named Lea Michele decided that she should sing Don't Rain On My Parade on the Tonys. It was then staged that she would have an extremely difficult entrance, jumping into the song from the aisle as Morrison finished his song onstage. I wonder how much of the vitriol is based on Lea Michele, and how much is based on Rachel Berry.
Having said all that, she was never my choice for Funny Girl. For better or worse, she could never break out of Streisand's specter, and we don't know if she has the comedic chops for that type of humor.

Oh the hating her on this board is as predicatble that Wicked will get bashed and so will Rent fans.
Its a snobby attitude which is all come out of a TV show that shes in that most on here hate (for one reason or another)
I think she sings well, she acts well, shes smart and she's doing great. She's part of something that has put Broadway very much in the spotlight (why do you think 'Smash' is happening?) and for that i thank her and the rest of the cast and crew of Glee. Do i like Glee? it's OK but not something i watch that often, but i appreciate what it's done

Posted: 8/4/11 at 8:41amI'm more concerned about Chris Colfer butchering Sweeney Todd than this Lea Michelle character. Colfer wants to play Tobias, right?
#42I Am Sick Of The Words 'Lea' & 'Michele'
Posted: 8/4/11 at 9:01amI assumed Colfer would play Johanna. I can't recall him singing anything other than female songs on the show.

"Kermie Arnstein! Kermie Arnstein!"
And of course the big production number in Act One:
"Seasme Street!
Not it's not Broadway, it's
Sesame Street!"
(Okay, where's the mind bleach when I need it...)

"I wonder how much of the vitriol is based on Lea Michele, and how much is based on Rachel Berry."
From what I understand, there's not much difference between the two.

Maybe Colfer and Lea Michelle can alternate Mrs. Lovett.

Posted: 8/4/11 at 11:27amI'd like to hear his cockney accent (Hence, Mrs. Lovett). It would probably be something like Corky St. Clair's attempt at it at the end of 'Guffman', but ya never know!
