It's a shame so many schools have staff like SporkGoddess. They are really missing out. One of the coolest experiences in hy high school was when they did The Song of Jacob Zulu, with the writer coming in to directing the show, and the chorus having a special session with Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Song & Dance.
"Tell Me On A Sunday" might not be that bad, if there's a decent singer playing Emma, but imagine a bunch of amateur highschool kids dancing "Variations."

Some disney shows like Lion King, BATB & Tarzan have the potential to be exceedingly terrible.
I saw a bad high school production of LSOH (hasn't everyone). The quality of singing was so bad and for the plant they used one single sock puppet. The plant didn't grow = it was the same sock puppet the whole show. When somebody got eaten the light's would go black and the actor ran offstage. Oh, did I mention this was at an ALL GIRLS SCHOOL?

A little known fact is that in the original screenplay, Pan's Labyrinth was Pan's FLAByrinth. Hmmmmmmm...glad they changed it.

"Haha. That's exactly what would happen. I love when they put choruses into the show.
I saw a Little Shop production with this giant chorus number for the opening, and then they never really came back."
Actually, if you do it right, a chorus in Little Shop of Horrors works really well.

Oh I thought of another horror! Since many high schools will have more girls than boys in their casts, we'll get such treasures as “Michelle Mahoney” and “Mademoiselle Andre”.

I actually saw good high school productions of The Will Rogers Follies, Big River and Fiddler on the Roof, but the last two I saw were a horrid Chorus Line, and they sang Boobs and Buns, but the "mirrors" were aluminum foil on cardboard and the Cassie was the choreographer. It was just awful.
I also saw a Sweet Charity that lasted 4 hours! The scene changes took so long it was a very long evening of theatre. I won't go back to h.s. musicals again. Life's too short, and my view of hell is eternal bad theatre.

Just like High Schools don't attempt Passion, A Little Night Music, Sunday In The Park With George, etc. Though I'm sure a school might have tried one of those shows - it's VERY rare.
My high school did A Little Night Music.

First, I have to say I'm all for theater exposure in High Schools. It's where most of us got our introductions to the art.
However, it's irresponsible for directors (or freakin' school board committees in some areas!) to select shows that are beyond the range and scope of their programs.
For example, I know of a school not far from me that bought and paid for the HS version of 'Les Mis' just to be able to say they were the only school in the area where you could see it. The problem is that this is the same School Board that absolutely trashed funding for the drama and music departments the year before (as is sadly happening all over the country!)
With no budget, a part time Music teacher, and an outside hired hand as Director, those poor kids never had a chance. The show was doomed to fail before it even started.
*END OF RANT*
As I was typing the above statement, a chill went through my spine when I thought about an all-child cast of "THE PRODUCERS"!!!
YIKES!

Ill tell you what does work though, if you have the budget, Little Shop Of horrors, My high school is preparing for a production now which will show in autumn and its looking really good, we have some very talanted cast members who, some of which, exspicially our audrey 2 is better than the actual Broadway and Wets End cast, not trying to sound Bias. We are also having a mechanical plant, so very high tech which will either work and look amazing, or break down every night and bugger every thing up, looking forward 2 cin it!

To all of you who are saying Avenue Q, it can DEFINITELY be done well. It was just premiered at stagedoor manor and was amazing. They didn't cut much at all. It's still very inappropriate, it's not really dumbed down.

They kept the entirity of Everyone's a Little Bit Racist?
And Schadenfreude?
Are sex and George Bush still only For Now?
(Or is this where altering a few words here and there comes in?)
Is Lucy the Slut's name still Lucy the Slut?
