And not ashamed to say it.
Saw it Saturday 14th August at 2.00pm and had a great time in the theatre. Was it life changing? Of course not. Nathan and Bebe were wonderful, the rest of the cast, outstanding.
I left humming a couple of the songs, had a smile on my face, payed full price and would do it again.
A fun, funny show.

Going to see it in October.
Really excited for Krysta and Wes.

ReiVallejo-
In my opinion, Krysta and Wes were the best part of the show, they're the reason I saw it in the first place. I wasn't too impressed otherwise

Posted: 9/5/10 at 9:27pmI saw it twice out of town here in Chicago and I loved it. Was it the best show ever and life changing? no. But i laughed my ass off and really enjoyed the performances especially Nathan, Krysta and Carolee.

I'm in the "Save your money" crowd on this one. This was the worst Broadway show I've ever seen. It starts with the iconic opening strains of the television show theme and that gets you all excited, and as the show goes on you just sink lower and lower and lower into your seat. Wes and Krysta were very good. Krysta's songs were the only ones that had me sitting up straight and engaged in the story. Even Bebe's dance number felt underwhelming. There was one joke by Jackie Hoffman that had my eyes rolling so far back into my head that I thought I might just get up and leave the theatre. These puns and punchlines were so gag inducing and tiresome that by the end of the show I barely had enough energy to clap after songs. The next day I felt compelled to wash the taste out of my brain by seeing La Cage for the second time in a week. Save your money, stay home and watch the tv show online.
(PS: I saw the show when Nathan was on vacation, but his understudy was very talented, so I'm not really sure if the show would've been much better had Nathan been there.)

I loved it!
The perfomances are amazing, the opening number is infectious and the Tango de Amore is wonderful.
It's fun and just being in Nathan and Bebe's presence is enough to pay full price

Posted: 9/6/10 at 9:40amI enjoyed it too----primarily due to Nathan's performance. I also enjoyed Krysta's---I had never heard of her before, but thought she had a wonderful voice and presence. I don't know if the show will do well after Nathan and Bebe leave, but....

I enjoyed it, but as TWINBELTERS said, this could not have been more LESS Addams Family-y. Bebe is the only one/Morticia that is anything Addams-y. Her song even reflects a stereotypical Addams-y theme as well, and was the best put together thing of the show.
That said, I enjoyed some of the music, but it's all pretty much unmemorable, the lyrics are terrible.... it's just not that good. Waste of talent, and a mashed up Act II.

Posted: 9/6/10 at 1:35pmOne more thing. I don't mean to drag this into 4chan territory, but this bothered me so much and all the reviews seem to skirt around it. Is it just me or do they use tentacle porn to resolve the plot between Lucas' parents? People were laughing during his song about being in the arms of a squid, but I couldn't have been more creeped out! I don't know. Maybe that's what they were going for.

Posted: 9/6/10 at 1:44pmIt's a decently funny, if instantly forgettable musical if you leave at intermission. Act Two is an abominable mess.

At least "In The Arms" took on a strong point of view and was a memorable squid--I mean, song. The rest should have been up to that level of bizarre or macabre. I feel like the Beineke's were the real stars of this show, and the Addams are the supporting cast. Big mistake.
Glad you had fun, but you should still feel an ache for a better Addams Family musical that could have existed had Kander and Ebb gotten their hands on the material in the 1980s--right after The Rink... with Chita playing Morticia...and Raul Julia as Gomez. Oh I told myself I wouldn't go there. Sniff. Danielle Ferland as Wednesday would have been AWESOME!
What's your dream Addams Family musical, if in fact it ever needs to exist?

Look at the original Addams Family movie. Music by Marc Shaiman in a completely unusual style for him, blending the classic sounds of Nino Rota with the modern gothic-baroque quirkiness of Danny Elfman. And it even included a musical number with lyrics by Comden and Green!
Now, if only Shaiman and Wittman had written the Addams Family musical!

I'm kinda tired of criticizing this musical, but I only do so because of the missed opportunity. THIS is the only Addams Family musical we are likely to see EVER, and boy was it a misfire. I don't even know how to describe what kind of sound Lippa was going for. Everything needed a stronger point of view, preferably Charles Addams', but it needed to soar and be an unbelievable risky night. Instead it relied on current pop culture references for humor... blah.
Shaiman would service the material well, sure, but I still think Kander and Ebb are the dream Addams team. I wonder what kind of story they would have done... Can you imagine the Bock and Harnick Addams Family musical? That could have been cool.

I love the show as well! it's not the best, but i love it! I hope when Bebe and Nathan leave it does well...it might not but time will tell.
i like the score, (bar 3 songs...which surprises me becuase normally i only LIKE about 3 songs IN a score) the lyrics are fun/funny and some are relatable...it's not cutting edge or sit on the edge of your seat thinking "can they get away with this on stage?!?!" stuff but it's enjoyable! i laughed, and eyes watered up at 2 points, and despite what people say about act 2, i think it went well.

There is a reaosn why it's been #3 at the box ofice after WICKED and LION KING respectively and an even better reason it won the Audience Favorite Award...
