If I were you, I would postpone the trip and keep saving up for a 2022 summer vacation; B'way will not be open until at least the fall due to COVID, plus you may get the opportunity to see more shows over a longer period of time in the future. One of the best things about seeing a show is that it is worth waiting for from time to time, and when you finally step into that theater you are blown away by every second- it's just an incredible feeling. Keep the faith and the patience!
I agree with Jordan....wait until next year. Right now, there is a huge possibility that shows won't even be open by July. (And even if they were, you aren't giving yourself a reasonable amount of time to save up $.)
Better still, visit London instead. Your theatrical experience will be far more satisfying.
I have given up on Broadway. Over priced, only rarely delivers the quality it claims.

I have seen theatre all across the world, and in my opinion Broadway is by far the best place in the world for musicals. Of course London has its moments (mostly productions of American musicals, go figure) - and there are always good plays on there - and of course Broadway seasons can go up and down - but nothing can beat the material and performers of musicals on Broadway on the whole.

I would second the advice to postpone it to late spring-early summer of 2022. There will be more shows to consider and maybe other NYC attractions would be more available then. You may want to check if there are hotels accepting reservations now but with free cancellation policies. It is true that plane fares and hotel rates seem to be on the rise now. I have been checking them lately but I do come from overseas.
You might also want to monitor the existing or planned pandemic rules of NY State/City --

I don't totally disagree, but when you add in off-Broadway productions and off-off Broadway opportunities, on average, I think NYC tops London's offerings.
I go to London every other year though because of the higher percentage of well-done, interesting, and often less commercial offerings, at more affordable prices that easily underwrite the trip abroad.
One only need look at the Olivier for best musical since 2001 - 74% of the time it's an American musical.
Do you mean June/July this year? Because there won’t even be four things opened by July here on Broadway for you to choose from to see.
As (argued) above, if your heart is set on seeing theater this summer then London would be your best bet. With shows rolling out openings right now from May - November there’s a lot scheduled to open/re-open by June or July.
Also, London Is great for shorter theater trips since they have matinees on shows Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays, meaning you could fit 6 shows into a three day trip if you plan it right.
Though not Broadway, the only theatre I know of that will have performances by July is the Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park production of Merry Wives of Windsor.
I agree with others to just save more money and come here summer 2022.
Also if you do the miles/points hobby that’s enough time to signup for a new cc with high signup bonus and use those points to pay for airfare and hotel.

Are you the kind of person who tells someone to order a different flavor when you go to an ice cream shop together because you, specifically, hate vanilla?

As others have noted, unless you plan on seeing four performances of A Perfect Crime, there will be no shows to see in June or July. However, some people are forgetting that Broadway cannot just reopen. The governor has to lift the restrictions, and then the need lead-in time for not only rehearsals, but ticket sales.
Excuse me, could you tell us what planet you hail from?

A 13 hr flight one way to London from Washington State for a 4 day trip is not the best use of time. London would be great for a longer future theater trip. Also in agreement that June or July of 2022 would be better. Not much will be open this year until possibly the Fall.
No need to buy tickets a year in advance unless it is something like The Music Man or Hello Dolly. Pick several shows to keep an eye on and sign up on their official websites for updates and possible promotions and discounts. There may also be announcements of new shows coming over the next year so keep you options open. If it is something you really want to see make sure you buy tickets ahead of time. Have them held at the box office so that you might have an easier time getting a refund/exchange or transfer to someone else. Join TDF if you can as they may have tickets for some shows available at a steep discount. Also Off-Broadway has many great shows so keep a watch on that too.

Hey there! Sounds like an awesome plan for your Broadway vacation! Going solo can be really exciting and liberating. Late June or early July should be a great time to catch some amazing shows. As for ticket purchases, it's understandable that you want to avoid rush tickets and secure decent seats. Since you have the money right now, it might be worth considering buying the tickets early to ensure you get the seats you want. However, keep in mind that prices for flights and hotels can fluctuate, so it's a good idea to keep an eye on those as you save up. I recently traveled and used the service www.dbfahrplan.com to book train tickets.
