Ballroom. I was in NYC in 1978 and thought (at the time) that $25 was a lot to spend for orchestra seats.
I started serious theatre-going back in 2011, so I went back over each season and chose one show from each that I regret missing:
2011-12––Death of a Salesman (Hoffman)
2012-13––Mystery of Edwin Drood
2013-14––A Raisin in the Sun
2014-15––The Audience
2015-16––N/A
2016-17––N/A
2017-18––Travesties
2018-19––Bernhardt/Hamlet
2019-20––N/A
In years prior, I'd add A Little Night Music, The Scottsboro Boys, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, South Pacific, Grey Gardens, Sweeney Todd (LuPone), The Drowsy Chaperone, Boeing-Boeing, August: Osage County, Jerusalem, Fences, God of Carnage.
That's a lot of shows, but this was a lot of fun to look back on!

Hairspray
Legally Blonde
The Color Purple (both for their own and some same reasons but more so the revival)
The Prom
The Humans
P.S. I feel like I didn’t really become a full on theatre and Broadway lover until sometime in the mid 2010s but I’ve always loved singing, dancing, and just performing in general too hence why I didn’t see the first two (If I were this age back the or of those shows were on within the previous few years up to know and beyond I would’ve jumped to see them ASAP lol)

I have two. The first was the Sarah Jessica Parker revival of "Once Upon a Mattress." At the time it was before the rise of the internet and info on things like show closings was not ready available so I did not know that the day we had the option to see it was actually the day before it was closing. I do not recall what exactly we saw that day from TKTS only that we severely were disappointed in it and wished we had seen Mattress instead especially after catching it's performance they did on the Tony awards that year.
And the second is the '99 revival of "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown." This one is a much more of a personal regret than anything else. My uncle very much wanted to see the show but no one else in the family did so every opportunity we had to see it, he was outvoted on the show choice. He tragically passed away not long after and I am honestly haunted to this day he did not get to see it.
I became a Betty Buckley fanatic when I first saw her on stage in Promises, Promises (London, 1969). Since then, I've had the good fortune to watch her perform many times, but not in "Sunset Boulevard". I really regret that.

Topping the list:
1) We Will Rock You in London - I was living there at the time closing was announced, am a massive Queen fan, and somehow it didn't occur to me to buy a ticket once I learned it was closing
2) Neil Patrick Harris in Hedwig and the Angry Inch
3) Prodigal Son on Off-Broadway, so I could have seen Timothée Chalamet before his star turn in the film Call My By Your Name. Would have been nice to see him before he was famous
Also:
4) My phone because I actually won the Jagged Little Pill lottery but missed the notification. So I haven't see JLP either.
5) Beetlejuice a second time even though I always planned to but waited on my friend -- who went to go see it a second time without me...
6) Theater before 2015
I'm sure there's others, but since it doesn't spring to mind immediately, I guess I'm not all that regretful/

You had to leave, or you didn’t like the first act (and now regret departing)?

I am playing Waitress and Dear Evan Hansen obsessively, and am kicking myself for not seeing those shows.
And you...?"
You DO know these are fairly new shows and DEAR EVAN HANSEN will resume Broadway performances once things return so you DO have a chance of seeing it, along with the national touring production, which is safe to assume will continue as well. WAITRESS may have closed on Broadway, but the national tour most likely will resume as well.
Also, both of these shows can be viewed on YouTube, so never say never and by all means, remove the word regret from your vocabulary. That word will never move your life in a positive direction."
Did this topic warrant such a toxic response? My god
I was going to see Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf with Laurie Metcalf but felt sick and decided to wait a week. Alas ...
Wish I'd seen Whoopi in 'Forum' and 'Dreamgirls'

Legally Blonde has jumped to the top of my list since rediscovering The Search for Elle Woods and the MTV proshot.
But also Beetlejuice, just so I could know why everyone is so riled up about its closing.
Not entering the Hamilton lottery when it was off Broadway. I ended up working at The Public right after its Broadway transfer. JUST MISSED IT.
Sunset Boulevard with Glenn Close. I was a broke high school kid, hanging in the city with my dad's credit card, and thought $99 was just way too much to have to explain. I got back on NJ Transit and went home.

Sometimes you just don't have the money and/or time. I'm curious to know how other shows that I only know from the cast album were staged but when they were on stage, I was likely too young to appreciate them.

The original Follies in 1971-1972. I was an undergraduate at Michigan at that time and didn't have the money to go to NYC, but that's the one that got away to me.

I re-discovered Lord of the Rings. I was in London a few times when it was playing. I liked the music a lot, but regret not going to the show now. I doubt it'll ever be re-done at that scale.

I regret not seeing Alex Sharp in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. I didn't like Taylor Trensch in the role unfortunately...
I also honestly regret not seeing Patti LuPone lashing out at someone in the audience. That must be an entertaining experience!

I don’t live anywhere near NYC, so I can’t regret seeing shows that weren’t going to be possible for me to see. However, my biggest regret for something that I DID have control over was deliberately choosing in 2001 to see The Music Man over Annie Get Your Gun with Reba. Young idiot that I was, I rolled my eyes at the idea of a country singer headlining a Broadway show. I wish I had that to do over!!
These are are original casts we are talking about, in no particular order:
ANYONE CAN WHISTLE
SWEENEY TODD
MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG
INTO THE WOODS
MAME

I had planned to see Little Shop last year with Groff but for some reason didn’t make it. Most likely a train issue. I did see Little Shop this Feb with Gideon Glick who was phenomenal, as was the entire production. I do regret not seeing Groff though.

I regret not seeing... a variety of shows.
As often as I go to NYC, I’ve only seen a handful of different shows. I often repeat shows because 1. I enjoyed it the first time enough to see it a second, third, or more times, and 2. I don’t want to waste money for a show I might not like (plus the $100 round trip train fare hurts more especially if I disliked the show).
That said, at the end of 2019 (say Oct - Dec), I was able to get to NYC 8 times to see 9 shows. 4 of those 9 were Hadestown. As much as I enjoy that show, I do wish I took a chance and bought a ticket to see something different.
A 2020 goal of mine was to see different shows and not to repeat the same show in the same year. I had 10 or 12 different shows lined up for the year but only saw 2 of them. When theatre can safely reopen, I will attend and continue my 2020 goal of seeing a variety of shows.

Guys and Dolls at the Marriott. It had both Muellers with Abby as Sarah and Jessie as Adelaide.
On a theater trip a couple years ago, I had to choose between Carousel and Once On This Island. We went with OOTI, which I loved, but I will forever regret not also being able to see Carousel. Joshua Henry is one of my favorite Broadway singers; I can't imagine what it must have been like to be in the room with him singing "Soliloquy."
I'll also be forever kicking myself for not figuring out some way to get to NYC to see the off Broadway run of A Strange Loop. It had better open on Broadway the MOMENT this pandemic is over.

The list would be way too long to note everything.
But the most recent miss was an offer to see the Yiddish version of Fiddler on the Roof. I was offered free tickets but I was really exhausted. Since I usher at another theater regularly, I figured I really needed the night off and would catch it another time
Little did I know we’d have every night off since March and still counting...so I should have gone for many reasons.
