IN THE HEIGHTS Summer 2021

It's a shame, but also expected. It'll be interesting to see how this impacts the Hamilton movie - I know Hamilton was filmed a while ago and probably doesn't have that much work to do before it's released, but will the two movies be released with enough time apart to not compete with each other at the box office? It's a trend I've noticed - the worst thing about all these postponements and cancellations is that they all make perfect sense.

I was expecting them to push it to this winter, to capitalize on Awards season

At least now it won’t be competing against Spielberg’s “West Side Story” for Academy Awards, since WSS is still slated to open in December 2020! Maybe the later release will work in their favor.

I think studios are concerned that movie theaters might not be open at full capacity in the winter, or maybe even at all in some parts of the country, or bankrupt. Pushing to 2021 is a much safer choice to maximize box office revenue.

It looks like they're pushing it as a summer movie rather than a big awards contender, as the trailer itself does.

That was my thought as well.

Countless summer films have swept awards season. These benefit by already being released on home video and streaming services when awards season kicks off so many voters re-visit films or choose to watch them then.

Either way, for me that is the single movie disappointment to come out of this mess. The trailer for it is just so damned good. (Of course, I am reminded that the best trailer I think I ever saw was for the Movie Hoffa, which was a mega-bomb. so you never know. Still, I am betting that it is going to be an exhilarating movie movie.

to wait for this movie another year is so stressful. but good things come to those who wait. at least the studio and crew are taking their time with this movie and making sure that it is well done. unlike cats

2021 is lin manuel miranda’s year. the fact that we are getting in the heights and hamilton within months of each other in 2021 makes me so excited. even tho it’s very sad that in the heights had to be delayed due to coronavirus, they are doing everything in their power to make sure that this movie will be released the best way possible and i respect it so much. i predict that this movie will be a massive summer hit just like hairspray and mamma mia was. it will be worth the wait.
