Broadway.com just updated their headline... it doesn't look good. I hope the cast can pull through tomorrow, and let's hope the crowd doesn't go crazy and gives respect to the already distraught cast, a worried and emotional JLT and a probably noticably petrified Shoshana Bean. This is a sad day for theater, and Idina Menzel is still a goddess among musical theater and no matter how much you may dislike her, she deserves some respect.
10/30/03 - 1/8/05 => What a run! Way to go Idina for inspiring millions and touching the lives of so many theatre-goers and bringing a sparkle back to 51st St. and Broadway. Elphaba will never be the same.
Yeah, I would be one of those people with an expensive ticket for tomorrow...my friend actually got them for both of us and spent upwards $600 for tomorrow. We also had tickets for tonight and when we were handed out playbill's, we almost passed out. We had no idea what had happened this afternoon and to see that little pice of paper in there saying that Shoshana was in for Idina was shocking! I am so upset (as we all are, I'm sure), but I feel really bad for Idina and the cast. It's one thing to know it's your last performance but to be robbed of it due to an error is so sad! I sat in my seat tonight thinking what must be going through all of their heads at this point
I must say, however - Shoshana was fabulous, especially considering all of the pressure she was probably under. I was so upset that I wanted to sit in my seat and sulk, but her performance didn't allow it. She was excellent!
I know that it seems definite that Idina won't be performing tomorrow, but I can't help holding out a little hope for her anyway. I guess we'll see what happens...
"Shoshana would step forward and place the hat and broom mid-stage and the rest of the cast would step back. Orchestra plays final chorus of Defying Gravity as the crowd applauds and cherishes the symbolism of Idina Menzel, giving her respects"
she's not dead after all...
not that i don't feel bad for her, this is truely awful but that kinda symbolism is a bit dramatic.
on a lighter note, can u imagine the looks on the faces of little kids in that emergency room when the wicked witch of the west got rolled in

Hi. I've just joined BWW literally 5 minutes ago; and the main purpose I joined was becuase of this thread. I've read each and every post from page 1.
I just want to make things as clear as possible. I have never seen Wicked nor have I heard much about it. I heard about Idina's imjury and came to this website to see if there was any news. I found this thread and was appalled by some of the posts.
Now that we have that clear, I'd just like to take a few moments and speak my opinion as a person who is not involved in anything related to Wicked.
And by the way, this post is not for anyone specific...in fact, I have seen the posts improve over the last few pages but I still feel this should be said.
Idina has gotten injured. That is a fact. Idina is in the hospital, that is a fact. Shoshana went on for her after her injury, that is a fact. Now that we hopefully all agree on that, I shall continue.
Idina and Shoshana *I assume* are friends. Well, lets just say that most likely they aren't enemies. As I write, I am writing in the terms of Idina not being in the show for her final performance. Now- once that has been comprehended, there should be nobody in their sane state of mind who should even be thinking about returning tickets. First of all, I'm sure Shoshana is quite upset over what has happened and wish it had ended like it was supposed to. Secondly, I'm sure Idina feels the same way, but also- I think she would be mucho disappointed to hear that people have returned tickets because she is not going to be on. If you are truly an Idina fan, you will not even think twice about going. Thinking in terms of Shoshana, do you really think she will feel good and feel welcomed if people return their tickets? I mean, don't you all want to welcome her with open arms? Obviously you wanted to see Idina for the last time but things don't always go as planned. Now, in terms of Idina- How do you think she will feel if people returned tickets because of her not being there. I'm sure she is sorry for not being able to make it....but if you people think that to risk her health is more important than getting better you must be nuts! As I said, Idina and Shoshana are probably friends...I think that Idina will be very very upset and angry with her fans if they don't go. If you return tickets, it is a huge disrespect for Idina, Shoshana and for the rest of the cast because basically what you are saying is "Nobody is good enough but Idina" And, as flattering as you may think that sounds to Idina- I think she would be furious to hear that. And if Idina makes an appearance at the finale or whatever...that is great that she was able to do that...but, if thats the reason you choose to keep your ticket... you're a ruthless person. You need to deal with life how it comes...not everything is going to work out the way you want it to. Don't expect it to because you will be let down every single day of your life.
Please, for the sake of Idina, Shoshana, Joey (who it seems to be his last day too) and the whole entire cast, do not return your ticket. Be there for them... act as you would as if Idina were there, because in fact; you are clapping for Idina as well. Put yourself in each one of their shoes... see how you would feel if tickets were returned, especially Shoshana...I mean, she already probably feels bad about Idina not being able to perform her last but moreover, to see such a bad turnout because of Idina's absence I'm sure will not make her very happy and not feel welcomed at all. And putting yourself in Idina's shoes...she's hurt, it wasn't her fault- she's going to remember this day forever... you want her to remember it the best way she can, and to do that....you will go to the show and be happy and delighted for Shoshana and the rest of the cast who I'm sure also is very upset by this happening.
If you are still reading this...Thanks for reading it now that I feel like I just gave a lecture. Whatever you do, live for the moment because the moment might end before you expected it to.
And that goes with every situation, not just this one.
Hope to hear great news about the show and hope to hear there were few ticket returns, if any.

I just wanted to jump back in and say that in a strange way, Idina's mishap brought me to this message board and all you wonderful folks who like me, enjoy OUR American Musical theater, and respect the hard work and dedication of all those who ply the boards 8 shows a week for our pleasure.
These people are the greatest in the world, and I love them all.
Look forward to returning here again.
this is gross that all of you are joining because of this freak accident.
this place should be for theatre lovers, not DRAMA lovers.

Okay I don't want to yell at everybody but most of you are acting crazy.
First off, everybody needs to stop talking about suing, because that's a shameless cowards way of making money and although I love Idina if she tried to sue I would stop supporting her career. As an actor she knows the risks, especially in a show like this where she partakes in numerous dangerous stunts. I'm sur Idina realises this and has been hurt numerous times before.
Secondly, to AvenueQ4Life, what the hell are you rambling about? It makes perfect sense for people to get a refund if the whole reason they were going was to see Idina. It might hurt Shoshanna's feelings but honestly she would never know because if the theatre gives out refund(which I doubt they will) then they will easily sell the tickets again before the show starts.
Well that's all for now, except stop acting so crazy all actors end up hurt at one time or another. It's just part of our job.

i agree chip
but in any case: Welcome!
As for your post:
Yes, it's Joey's last performance...as I said gL to all but the fact is some people have seen Wicked many times and are seeing Wicked tomorrow to see off Idina (like buying tickets to the everlasting Cher Farewell concert)...
If Idina isn't going to be there, they may want their money back - and give someone else who wants to see Wicked FOR Wicked a chance to acquire a ticket...
True, you should use the ticket as Wicked is a sold out show - but nevertheless, people want their money...
But what about the people who paid a sh*t load of money on ebay? They can't get their money back. That is sad. Funny, but sad at the same time.

i don't know why people would pay that much...
"My prediction is that she doesn't perform but does come out for a curtain call.."
You're probably right....that's exactly what they did when Joel Grey "left" with Kristin and Norbert.
You are all a bunch of HUSSYS!

Im sure Shoshana has a healthy understanding of how Idina has devoted fans who may have spent extra money to be there for that specific occassion and who may not have any idea who she is. It isnt something to take personally. I too expect a lot of people to try to return tickets. I think whether or not the theater is required to do that depends on whether or not Idina's name appears above or below the Wicked logo, someone will correct me if Im wrong. Shosh has her own fans and they all have tickets for TUESDAY.

Broadway.com article says: While the production has not yet officially announced whether Menzel will return, according to Bean's own posting on her official website, she will also play the role at the January 9 matinee.
Now again, someone correct me if Im wrong but on Shosh's website, the only announcement I see is a posting by some girl named Ashley on the fansite. Is this 'ashley' the webmaster?

channel 7 just mentioned it....that Idina "Menzle" fell 2-3 feet during her final performance....
ah, the irony. someone who takes few, if zero, sick days must take one for her last show. Note sick days, not vacation days or days in Africa.
Another vote for "AvenueQ4Life", you joined BWW for that?
::shakes head::
can someone post a direct link to Shoshana's message..i can't find it....you could also just copy and paste it in here...thanks
I was definitely there yesterday for all of this. At both performances [we won lotto for the evening show]. And uhm, it's still pretty surreal that it all happened.
Today's going to be a rough day, I can say that much. I don't have tickets, but I assume they won't be difficult to attain at this point - but then again, I don't think I want to go. After yesterday, I'm almost scarred. My friend and I held hands, shaking right after For Good last night just because it was so scary to watch AGAIN.
I'm just hoping the audience today will take Shoshana in with open arms, should she be the one performing. Joey said at the stage door last night that even he didn't know who would be performing tomorrow. He said she's a fighter. Well, we know this
I don't even know what to say about all of this, except that being in that audience is something I will never, ever forget.

I would just like to clear something up if anyone was thinking it- I am not the Ashley on that shoshana website. There. Just had to say it just in case.
greenifyed,
Thanks for the update! Good for you for going back for the evening show.
