Idina hurt in 2nd act of today's matinee/Shoshana finished show instead!- Page 14

You know, I feel as badly for Idina as anyone but I can't believe the melodrama on this thread. It's sad that she got hurt, no one ever wants a performer to be hurt in the course of a show. However, the repeated mention of her being 'seriously hurt' and acting like she's on death's door is ridiculous. She fell 2-3 feet and from all accounts has no broken bones, just some bruised ribs. Bruised ribs are painful but certainly not anything warranting the comments about it being the worst thing ever to happen in theatre and that it has scarred people for life. Good grief, people, a lot of you need to get a grip. Think about what's going on in Asia and put it in perspective.

I don't think anyone is minimizing the tragedy in Asia by being considered than a popular actress at a sold out show fell during a performance and cracked a rib. This is a theatre message board, not the off-topic.

I didn't say they were minimizing it. I said people should put it in perspective. It's not like she's seriously injured. She has bruised ribs. People are acting like her injuries are life-threatening. Too much drama.

I dont think theres been an 'official' statement on whether or not its a bruised, cracked or broken rib or ribs. the broadway.com and broadwayworld.com articles both left that kindve vague.

"Deemed as a possible risk to already injured ribs"

" Menzel went to an area hospital where she was examined by doctors to determine whether her ribs were just bruised or if fractuing occured. No official statement has been made about the diagnosis."

people, what happened yesterday afternoon was a very sad event, and an even sadder way to end her great run. are 14 pages of rumors really necessary? there is no definite answer about anything, the closest is the post on Shoshana's website. personally, i'd rather idina be out today than risk greater injury and have to drop out of the Rent movie.

I agree Yankeefan...I just feel so bad for all those idina fans who wanted to see their favorite star play her last show, and for shoshana who is probably going to have one of the most difficult performances of her life, because everyone came to see idina. but i have no doubt shoshana will kick serious ass

And to find Shosh's comments you have to click to visit the official fan site and once there go to the Q&A section where she answers fanmail. She didnt so much 'make a statement' as answer a question about appearing in Idina's place.

Just catching up on ths thread again...

First of all, thank you, Dame for calling us ' a bunch of hussys', it's an honour

AvenueQ4life, OF COURSE, people would want to return their tickets today and why not? People are seeing this particular performance today BECAUSE it is Idina's (and Joey's) last night. It has nothing to do with Shoshana, but with people spending money and wanting to see this performance. If Shoshana is indeed hurt or disappointed about people wanting to return their tickets (which I doubt she is, she's a professional), she's in the wrong business, honey.

Also, people seem to be doubting that you can return your tickets if Idina is off today (like jarred)... You can definitely return your ticket and get your money back (depending on where you purchased them). It happens all the time and friends have done it on numerous occasions.

By the way, I can't find this message on Shoshana's website either. I found the link to her Questions for Sho section but couldn't see the message. Has it been taken off?

It happened during the melting scene, right after For
Good, so you could see her through the scrim - apparently what it
looked like was that she fell and got the wind knocked out of her. My
friend could see all of this happening in silhouette. Then she
started screaming, "HELP ME HELP ME CALL MY HUSBAND" and all these
actors rushed out and surrounded her. Jennifer just stood there, on
the other side of the scrim, staring out at the audience and then she
ran off stage crying. Apparently Idina was moaning and crying with
every breath. They closed the curtains as she was rushed off stage.
They told the audience that if there were any doctors in the house
please go right up to the sound booth and I think like 8 doctors
went. Then they announced that she may have broken her ribs and the
show was going to resume in 20 mins (they had to put all that green
makeup on Shoshanna). Then they heard sirens and an ambulance took
her away. The show resumed but Jennifer was crying hysterically and
Joey apparently looked really shocked. Shoshanna didn't take a bow at
curtain call.

Q. Shoshana...are you planning on going on for Idina tomorrow? If so...do you feel extra pressure in front of all the people that came from all over the US to see her last show? I think that you will win even more fans over if you go on...so good luck and tell Dee we hope she gets well soon.
A. yes i'll be on tomorrow - no pressure - i just feel guilty. but the audience was so amazing tonight - so if tomorrow is anything like that - i'll be blessed. but i don't blame them - hell, I'M dissappointed too!

That woman is a trooper, and an amazing performer, I pray she'll be able to give her last performance as she deserves to do. And if not, I hope she recovers soon.

Just a question if anyone knows the answer. I was reading something and it was talking about how it was ironic with what happened to kristin and then idina. What happened to Kristin? I wasn't on the boards when she was in it so sorry if it was worked to death but i was just curious. Did she get hurt in one of her final shows also?

I wasn't going to post on this thread...but I feel like I have to.

One hundred and fifty thousand dead people in South East Asia, and Idina's accident illicits this kind of resonse???

I surely hope the people who could afford to pay $1000 to see her last show donated at least three times that to hundreds of thousands who lives have been destroyed by an act of nature.

I wish Idina a speedy recovery. And I wish you all a sense of perspective.
