If I Had A Broadway Time Machine… April-May 1966

WILDCAT.....Since I am a big fan of Lucille Ball and I love the cast recording.  The score has bright, bouncy songs and a great overture.  The cast recording was nominated for the Grammy Award as Best Cast Show Album and it spent 26 weeks on the Billboard Chart for Best Selling Albums, peaking at #6.

I love R&H so much, but the book and score to this show leave me cold.  I enjoyed the post about it launching the career of Shirley MacLaine, however. (I would have guessed that Shirley was the gal on the bottom left, not top right, in the attached photo.)

I'd like to go back to 1948 and 49 to see the original productions of Kiss Me, Kate, A Streetcar Named Desire, South Pacific and Death of a Salesman.  I wonder if people knew how good they had it then. (Streetcar is the only one of those shows that I haven't seen a worthy revival of; at least it got the best movie adaptation.)

I have a copy of the libretto and it's very dull. Someone years back posted a YouTube video of a high school production early 80s of ME AND JULIET too. Too bad Encores never got around to it, but Viertel supposedly hated the show.

The closing night of CARRIE - to hear Betty Buckley sing that score!

And to be very basic, I'd go back to the night Liza was announced as a temporary replacement in CHICAGO.

I'm a huge lover of HELLO, DOLLY so I'd love to see Carol Channing during her height in the show.

Laurette Taylor in "The Glass Menagerie."

I want to experience THE singular performance the legends in "Broadway: The Golden Age" were so inspired and moved by.

I feel like every Broadway gay of a certain age was at Liza's first night in CHICAGO, the way they all have the same story.

Linzi Hateley has a funny quip where she says “if as many people saw Carrie that claim to have seen Carrie, we’d still be open”
