I actually think Great Comet needs Best Musical the most. Come From Away is picking up steam, and Dear Evan Hansen has had steam all along. But we've seen what not having Josh Groban has done to Comet's numbers, when he's missed multiple performances a week. That concerns me. But if it had Best Musical attached to it, that could give it a post-Groban boost, which could only be a good thing. I won't be disappointed, no matter which show wins. But I'd like to see Comet win for that reason (since all the shows are amazing, to me). Just my opinion, though.

And to answer the OP's question, I could easily see Jenn Colella beating out RBJ.

I tend to avoid schadenfreude - esque discussions, but I had to read and chime in...
I'd add my two cents to the upset being Hello Dolly getting snubbed for Falsettos and somehow Bette getting passed over (Patti LuPone?)
Considering everyone practically awarded that to her when the show was announced and before it even started rehearsals - and the back and forth over whether they are performing or not... well Tonys have been tempermental before, it could happen again

I could see Andy Karl upsetting Ben Platt. And I hope he does. I saw both DEH and Groundhog Day and even though I thought DEH was a better show overall, Andy gave a performance that was on another level. And with all the press about his ACL....I don't know. Anything could happen there.
Let's also not forget what an unpredictable year its been (Election, Super Bowl, Oscars, etc.). I'm really going into this with no solid predictions.
I have to say that it is nice having suspense around the awards again after last year with Hamilton.

Honestly, I would be so happy if Falsettos wins anything, the production was fabulous and the cast was so talented. I'd love to see SJB win- she was amazing but I can't see it happening. Maybe Rannells will pull in a win but him and Uranowitz could split the vote just like him and Josh Gad during Book Of Mormon (Rannells should have won) but I guess the biggest upset would be Christian Borle winning but that has legitimately no chance of happening in my opinion.

I don't know if I'd bet on that, I just have a gut feeling something like that could happen.
Having seen all 3 shows, this would be my prediction as well.

Maybe wishful thinking but Laura Linney beats Laurie Metcalf?
I recently saw A Doll's House 2 and while I appreciated Metcalf's performance I really felt like the whole thing was a womens' studies dissertation defense rather than a play.

Indecent winning Best Play. Although none of the plays winning would really be an upset since they are all very well received. Indecent really hits you hard like others don't and I think the ticket sales are different than what Tony voters will like.

No offense, but if Andy wins it will be based on his talent and what he has brought to the role and not due to the fact that he tore his ACL.

I'd argue there's an overdue factor with Andy if he were to win. And that's not to say he shouldn't win, I think it's a Tony-worthy performance, but these awards aren't voted on solely based on talent or merit. Why else would Dear Evan Hansen have an ice cream truck?

I wasn't saying that he would win solely based on his injury but it's definitely not hurting him in the Tony race. Even though it should only be based on talent and performance in the role, there's a million biases and factors that go into how they vote.
ACL accident or not, he was phenomenal in Groundhog Day and still deserves the praise and recognition.

I can't answer your question, but I've been wondering if Come From Away's fate might play out this way. I thought it was very strong as a complete work, meaning the book, score, direction, and company all working together to create a cohesive, unified experience, without the credit obviously owing to any one of those individual factors.

The book for Come From Away is lousy. It would really be a shame if they gave it to them as a token award.

I don't think that's ever happened with Best Musical, but it's definitely happened with Best Play--just recently, both Clybourne Park and Vanya, Sonia.... only took Best Play (and the next year All The Way only took Actor and Play, so that's 3 straight Tony winning Best Plays with only 4 awards between them)
