LMFAO. She is so funny! "Mewww...yes...mewyesmewwww" LOL. I love when she is saying "...gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta" and she takes a long break and you think shes done, but then she starts up with the "gotta"s again. Oh, Idina...:)
It's going to sell extremley well. The OBCR was, I think, the second best selling Bway CD ever (up til last year when Wickeds OBCR came out)...it will sell wonderfully.
I'm not sure on either account, orange. Sorry!
I love when she is saying "...gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta" and she takes a long break and you think shes done, but then she starts up with the "gotta"s again. Oh, Idina...:)
I'm not sure if Idina actually invented that as I've seen other Maureens do that prior to this, but perhaps it came alond after the OBC was recorded or was cut for the OBCR... I dunno...
Yeah, I know I've seen other Maureens do it with a pause, so it's not new to the movie.
Thanks anyway Emcee, I'd just never heard it had changed before.
Hmm...*trying to remember if the Maureen I saw did that...well, first trying to remember the name of the Maureen I saw LOL*.
Did anyone see the OBC on Bway? Did Idina ever do it on stage?
Hah, nevermind! Updated On: 9/27/05 at 10:25 PM
*has completely lost it*

Just bought the Rent soundtrack today, and saw this huge thread so I though I would add my two cents worth.
I'm loving the new orchestrations, especially on Tango Maureen. I agree with everyone that the cut dialogue and the changes in some of the lyrics take are gonna take some geting used to. I hate that they left out Taye's first line on You'll See, but I loved that they added extra lines to Tango Maureen.
Some of the songs like La Vie Boheme seemed just a bit slower than on the OBCR, but the orchestrations made up for it. All in all, it's a great compliment to the Rent OBCR, and after listening to it and seeing some of the pictures, I think i'm more exited than ever to see this movie.
does anyone read the threads already posted before they continuously repeat themselves, god that it annoying to read through
B&N has it for 15% off and then memebers get another 10% on top of that, it works out to about $22.00
if you dont know a member find someone else who is checking out, and ask if you can use their phone number, thats all you need
I must add my 2 cents to this thread because I am so excited about finally owning the soundtrack!
-I agree with whoever said Anthony sounds even better than on the OBCR. "Halloween" is the one song I pushed repeat on two times because I thought it sounded so wonderful.
-I miss Daphne's voice but I am about ready to hand over the "best actor in the movie" title to Rosario. I appreciate that she reminds us that she is singing to someone or about something important and not just singing for the hell of it.
-Tracie, Jesse, and Wilson are amazing. They stand out to me as the strongest performances.
-I miss Adam's vibrato, but I like the acting effort.
-I wish Idina had shown off her powerful vocals. OTM is boring to listen to but hopefully it will be better to watch. I have my doubts but will reserve judgement. until after the movie.
A note on OVER THE MOON....
Besides the obvious - Idina will be performing this with a camera inches from her face, and the already hypothicized: "this isn't the take used in the actual film" opinions -- I'd like to add the following.
OVER THE MOON was written to be a PERFORMANCE ART piece, not a Broadway showtune. The spaced out tone Idina adopts on the film soundtrack along with the more pronounced electric cello is, in my opinion, a very obvious choice to emulate Laurie Anderson, who the performance artist Maureen is based on.
To work, the number on film should be bizarre, droll, and to a degree, unintentionally hilarious. Listening to the track, my guess is that it will actually accomplish this quite well.

I really like the soundtrack...still trying to get used to Mimi though.
hands down the best part of the entire thing is goodbye love.
MB - a voice of reason and wisdom.
And, I have a question: do you think they released the Soundtrack too far away from the movie opening? Two months is an awfully long time I would think between the release of the Soundtrack and the movie. I would have thought the timing would have been a bit closer to continue the momentum. Unless they have some more amazing promotional surprises in store, then I wonder does the timing make sense?
I am sure some of the folks who are more familiar with the industry than me can help me on this one.

Pretty much everything has been said at this point - just want to share in the excitement! The Borders by me had the covers with Jesse, Wilson, Tracie, and Adam, and after MUCH deliberation I chose Jesse - don't really know why, but I'm happy with my choice! It was going for $27.99 but was on sale for $23.99. I cringed a little but it was worth it.
Anyway, the main point I agree with and that I'll reiterate is that this will take some getting used to - if you love it off the bat, great. If not, give it a chance. It's very possible it will never live up to some people's expectations, nor will it surpass most people's love for the OBCR. But I think everyone sounds great - the OBC folks sound as fresh as ever, Rosario has been surprisingly delightful to listen to in my opinion, and Tracie, well, I think we all know what the general consensus is regarding her...simply outstanding.
As far as all the little nuances and specific things that are good/bad/different, as I said before they've pretty much all been pointed out. But they (Sony, the cast, the musical directors, everyone) did a fantastic job bringing this to life. For me at least, it only adds to my love for the show and furthers my excitement for the movie.
Oh, and Love Heals....wow, wow, wow.
YouWantitWhen????, I think thats the reason for the 11/8 release, without the collectible covers.
I LOVE JESSE ON THE NEW SOUNDTRACK!! His reprise has nothing but improved, he rocks. Idina is of course perfect and I love the changes made to Over the Moon. Adam I don't really care for. His new voice just doesn't do it for me. Tracie has pretty much one of the most amazing voices EVER! I love her to death. Rosario is totally sexy in Out Tonight and I love her. Wilson is great as always, he's great on the new soundtrack. Anthony is my man! HE ROCKS!! I love him so much he showed them all how it's done. Way to go Anthony. The soundtrack gets an A in my mind. SO EXCITED FOR NOVEMBER!
JACXR71, that's the most accurate description I've heard of Love Heals yet, and I'm so serious. I thought the song sounds amazing. Honestly, every time I hear another song written by Jonathan Larson, I just get blown away by how talented he was.
I just had an almost-crisis with my laptop. My hard drive was completely deleted and it went back to the default settings from when I first bought it. My first thought:
"OMG, my Rent soundtrack!!!"
Technically, I already had it on my iPod, so it wasn't as if I couldn't really listen to it, and the nice man at Dell helped me fix my laptop, but I just found it really sad and funny that my first concern wasn't all my personal files and pictures and videos and everything, it was the Rent soundtrack.
Hi, my name is orangeskittles and I have an addiction.
Oh, and I was looking at Amazon.com and the first review they have for the soundtrack is someone that clearly states that he "strongly disliked" the musical and the music, then goes on to give it a bad review and 1 star. I don't have a problem with him doing that, he's entitled to his opinion. However, if you didn't like the musical in the first place, why would you buy the soundtrack expecting something drastically different?
I miss the song right before "Over the Moon" where Maureen finally appears after being talked about many times and she says "Joanne which way to the stage?" I just always thought that was a nice entrance.
#10 on Amazon!!
That was Christmas Bells, MTVMANN. Again, cut for the movie. Its loss will be missed, but if it was necessary, then.... *sigh*

Hey everyone --
Do we have any idea if these o-card releases are just temporary? (i.e. do I have to figure out how to buy one TODAY?) or do we think they'll be around for a while (so I can buy one in 3 weeks when I have a car and easy access to stores)?
gracias :)
OrangeSkittles . . .
I just read that guys review, and he clearly has some anti-Idina anger that had to be released. He goes out of her way to bash her for how she sings high notes, when, truth be told, she has far few on this recording than she did not the OCR. He just seems to have an axe and is wielding it pretty fierecly.
Like you, I don't understand spending the money on an album if you know going in that you are not going to like it - presuming he even did buy the album.
He also attacks Love Heals as something that is added to be eligible for an Oscar, when everyone here has clearly stated that it is not a song for this movie, and is not eligible.
He just sounds pretty damn angry at Rent and Idina. Perhaps he is a frustrated Fiyero or Mark. Who knows.
Well, hmm, not sure what to say about the soundtrack, I think it's fine overall and there are places that are moving, but I don't know.
I really don't like how blurred and mechanical Out Tonight sounds. It's not even Rosario's voice that really bothers me. The music itself just sounds too much like a computer rather than a real drums and guitar. The raucous raw sound of the OBC is much better. Rosario also could've been a bit more exuberant with her performance, but she was fine I guess. She does take some getting used to. Maybe I'll like her more eventually.
I think everyone else on the soundtrack is good overall with some questionable moments here and there.
I guess I just really don't want to overhype myself for this movie because I did that with POTO and it was really really disappointing to me. It's not even that I thought POTO was bad necessarily, it just wasn't the amazing experience I wanted it to be.
Maybe I'm just not in a good enough mood right now to enjoy the soundtrack fully, but it's not totally wowing me. I do really like "Another Day" though. The lyrics are pretty clear on the soundtrack, which was good.
I just hope it all works well onscreen.
