Who Agrees?
Hmm I don't, I think although it would be hard to adapt for screen it will be spectacular when (if) they do.
A carbon copy of the stage show would never work... not that I'm a big wicked fan, but a real re-imaged concept for a movie could be very lucrative.
And the original cast will not be a big box office draw... they'll most certainly get some celebrity "names" to play the roles, which maybe best for the screen... I mean lets face it watching Idina Menzel scream "defying gravity" will not be enjoyable on screen.... just my opinion.

i think the idea of making it into a movie is so that it can appeal to a broader audience. Also since it isn't closing any time soon i doubt they would do filmed stage version of it. That's a completely different concept. While I don't know how i feel about a wicked movie or even this whole trend of translating broadway shows to film and vice versa I do think they could some amazing special effects with this one.
Really I will be glad with whatever they give us, though it will likely not happen any time soon.

They'll have to pay Kristin Chenoweth a looot of money to come back to Wicked. She is not very interested in ever doing it again.
No Idina and no Chenoweth and no Wicked: The Musical.
A rewritten musical that's closer to the novel would be amazing! I hate the fluff they call Wicked.
I've said it before and I'll probably never stop staying it. Give me dark and brooding over light and fluffy any day.
As far as I know, there is no WICKED move in the works.

Yes, because the nearly-40 Chenoweth in close-up on a huge movie screen will be SO convincing as a college student.
Let's face it - Idina's bare ass in RENT looked fabulous on stage in 1996. On screen in 2006 - not so much.
I like wicked. In this case, when wicked is made into a movie, I want it to be solely based on Gregory Maguire's book with no musical theatre aspects involved at all. To me, that is the way things are meant to be. I don't want to see a show like wicked destroyed by the world of film.

Personally I think if they make a Wicked movie based on the musical it should animated.

You think you are the first one to think of this?
No. No. No.
And by the time Wicked is in need of a movie, the OBC will be out of the question.
I'd kill for something based on the novel though, like originally planned.
I realize the OP just signed up a week or so ago, so he/she will soon find that many folks wont agree with their premise simply becasue the OBC was not necessarily even close to being the best cast in those roles!
Besides, even if filming began today, they'd all be too old to be convincing.
I think a movie would be better than the show. They could tak out the bad parts & put in better ones. They could open things up & with CGI it could be really good
Some shows can be taped & that may be the only way to see it as a movie will never be made. A movie version can only help if they cast it right. Hopefully, they will avoid making another Wiz.
why doesn't chenoweth want anything to do w/ wicked?
Just to begin with, because she was involved with it for SO many years that it's of no interest whatsoever.
When did she say this?

I think my time as Glinda is done, says Kristin.
Please don't. No Wicked movie. Could you imagine how cheesy the end of Defying Gravity will be?
Norbie can't play Fiyero anymore. So even then it can't be the entire OBC. But, the reason they'll eventually make a movie is because of money. They won't film the stage show for DVD release when there's the possibility of making millions at the box office.

"the OBC was not necessarily even close to being the best cast in those roles!"
Another good point.
There are a lot of younger actors that would be just as good if not better.
Eden Espinosa. Shoshana Bean. Kristy Cates. Carmen Cusack. (Just thowing names around. I actually have no idea how old Carmen is)
Megan Hilty. Katie Rose Clarke. Annaleigh Ashford(erk). Katie Adams.
Anyway, I do not want to see the movie ever happen. It will though, it will.

I've said this before. I don't like the idea of a movie musical for this. I think it'd work better if it was a darker movie minus the happy musical numbers.
Jeez does this win a prize for longest thread title??
Also, dont think the OBC would work anymore... Idinas voice is a bit dead (not that I was a huge fan her in the first place)and in general I agree a younger cast would work better for a film..
I'd be fun to see what Hollywood stars can live up to the expectations of the musical. I think they SHOULD make a movie.

Umm,I think it would be cool, but I don't think that would work. Plus Kristin said she was to old to do the movie so why would she do this? And think of all the magical things they can do with the movie industry for Wicked! Look at the trailers and promos with Stephanie J Block and everything! They look really cool and that's without movie tech and stuff!!! :)
