Way too early for that. Besides, fantasy roles (or films) rarely take home Oscars. They're rarely even nominated.
LOTR: Return of the King is the only fantasy film to ever win Best Picture.

I know it's too early but I was thinking about it because my folks are going to see 'Les Miserables' this week for the first time on DVD and there was speculation about what award Anne Hathaway would be considered for. Plus, I just re-watched 'Dreamgirls' the other night and even though Effie White was the main character in the musical they made her a supporting character in the movie. So, the possible awards for this movie came into my mind.
Anyway, tomorrow at the Tonys Red Carpet I hope Gyllenhaal will confirm his participation in the film and what role he will be playing.

This will probably be considered an ensemble film, come awards season. I would guess most actors will be in the supporting categories. Then again, if a lot of editing is done in the adaptation, there may be a more clear "leading" role. I would guess the Witch, the Baker, and Baker's Wife might swing lead nominations ... but because there are so many other stories involved in the plot, their chances will be less likely to win a leading award.
Kinda like when they jockeyed to have Effie considered a supporting role. It greatly improved her chances of winning. A smaller leading role (not on screen for the entire movie) is now a "large" supporting role.
It's so hard to tell what the Academy will consider a lead/supporting performance, I still think it's baffling that Philip Seymour Hoffman (in THE MASTER) and Christoph Waltz (in DJANGO UNCHAINED) were considered supporting actors this past year when they were both clearly co-leads. INTO THE WOODS is one that seems to confuse voters too, Joanna Gleason herself was placed in different categories across the numerous theatre awards, Kerry O'Malley didn't get in for the revival and I'm not sure what the Tony committee deemed her (she was nominated for Featured at the Drama Desks while Benanti and Williams got in for lead), but then Amy Adams was the big get of the SitP production where she headlined with O'Hate and Murphy. The Oscar game will be hard with this one in terms of category placement, but like Besty said, it's an uphill battle for them, this one is probably more interested in being a huge BO hit that appeals to all members of the family rather than an Oscar player.
We'll have to see what cuts are made first. If they cut "Witch's Lament" and add "Rainbows," which is rumored, they scale will definitely tip away from the Witch as leading and towards the Baker's Wife.

Moving on, James Corden's upcoming projects were mentioned by Digital Spy two days ago. They say that they got their information from a source close to him and maybe this confirms that he is finished negotiations to play the Baker.
"He is also tipped to play the baker in the upcoming Stephen Sondheim musical adaptation Into The Woods, alongside the likes of Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep and Chris Pine."
Though they could be wrong because they got their information from the U.K. newspaper The Sun and that is known for being a tabloid.

So last night Kendrick, Gyllenhaal, and Hilty did not confirm whether or not they will be in this film. Matthew Morrsion who said earlier this year that he has big movie musical project in the works did not say anything either. I guess was easier to confirm casting for 'Les Miserables' since the musical was still running in the West End and it was touring North America. The official website of the musical would always give updates. 'Into the Woods' does not have an official website.

^ Were they asked about the movie specifically or did it just not come up?

^ I didn't see the red carpet footage online I was at the movies. But if they would have said anything there might have been an article about it like this one where Pasek & Paul talk about their projects.
Pasek & Paul - A CHRISTMAS STORY to Return to Broadway in December, New Disney Musical, and More in the Works?
Yeah, there definitely would be an article about it if they had said anything. I'm thinking Gyllenhaal is probably a go, whereas I'm very doubtful about Kendrick's involvement.

It looks Disney wants to give the 'Annie' remake competition on Christmas Day next year.
INTO THE WOODS Film to Hit Theaters Christmas Day 2014!
Not to mention, "high Oscar season."
I had to look him up. I think he could work as the Baker.
jungle red, google "gavin and stacey smithy" for video. Also, if you can find it, Dr. Who "The Lodger episode features Corden in a role with qualities similar to the Baker.
He'll be perfect as the Baker. ...and he can sing.

When I heard that Disney was going to distribute this film I always wondered if future revivals of this musical, Broadway and West End, would be done by Disney Theatrical.
Disney reps attended the revival in the Park.

Entertainment Weekly says that Gyllenhaal might have already finished negotiations.
"Among the actors attached to the project are Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, and Jake Gyllenhaal."
'Muppets' sequel gets new title, 'Into the Woods' gets release date, and more Disney updates
With Disney producing, I can already see the theme park ride if this movie is a big hit.
And no, I'm not joking one bit.
I can just picture Sondheim getting into a little motorized car or carriage and "riding" through his very own musical journey.
LOL
Besty, I wouldn't be surprised if the theme park attraction potential featured somewhat in Disney's decision to even be involved with the show. They're very very smart businesspeople and they are very aware that they could spin this one into gold, the theme park ride, the action figures, the soundtrack, it all just has an incredible potential to be huge. Really, regardless of his reputation on this board, Rob Marshall gave them one of the highest grossing movies ever, they know what kind of business they're getting into. With this release date they're really trying to make this one a huge family hit, wonder what that will mean in terms of the tone, cuts and changes.
On a different note, who would have thought Meryl Streep, in her 60s, would be headlining holiday blockbusters? She had a huge hit with IT'S COMPLICATED, released over the holidays, and now she's headlining INTO THE WOODS. I find that just so impressive and awesome.

I doubt Disney will bring Into the Woods into the park mostly since Disney already has a majority of the characters already in the parks (Rapunzel, Cinderella, etc.) However, we might see some of the Into the Woods characters that AREN'T in the parks already (Witch, Jack, Bakers, etc.)

Speaking of parks, they are apparently putting Cars Land and Star Wars land in Disney's Hollywood Studios. However since Fantasyland was just updated, it's unlikely that Into The Woods would be integrated. Besides, what rides would there be? Rapunzel's Tower Bungee Jump? Jack's Giant Bash? Little Red's wolf-skinning station? Escape from the Palace (lined with pitch)?
I didn't say a whole section, I said a ride (like Pinocchio, Snow White, Peter Pan, Alice In Wonderland, Roger Rabbit, or Mr. Toad). One "Into the Woods" ride with all the characters.
