Ashley Brown worked for almost eight consecutive years. She did 'On the Record' from 2004-2005, 'Beauty and the Beast' from 2005-2006, 'Mary Poppins' on Broadway from 2006-2008, and the 'Mary Poppins' on tour from 2009-2010. She then did some regional theatre in 2010, 'The Sound of Music' at the Muny and then the world premiere of the 'Chaplin' musical as well. And then in 2011 she returned to the Broadway production of 'Mary Poppins' while Laura Michelle Kelly was away filming a movie. That is a busy schedule over the last several years.
"Let's remember that James Corden's casting is not yet confirmed."
It is confirmed, along with Streep and Depp, on the casting call.

^ But the casting call for 'Les Miserables' said that Emma Watson was going to play Cosette and Geoffery Rush would be playing Mousier Thenardier and both of those casting decisions were false.

I want Toni Collette to be a part of this, any part of this, so badly.
Toni Collete has a new series called HOSTAGES on CBS that will be filming in the fall, so she's unavailable.
Good news is HOSTAGES is supposed to be one of the good ones.
Well, I hope Corden is actually involved, can't get too excited about anyone until they're announced officially.

Emily Blunt confirmed it herself that she will be playing the Baker's Wife.

The article also mentioned Hilty is still up for one of the Stepsisters. I wonder how graphic the cutting of heels and toes will be considering its a Disney film?
I realize that the video is unfair..but she has a long way to go for The Baker's Wife. Otherwise, I'm going to be rooting for the Baker's Wife's demise, long before Act 2 and hoping that is not the death which has been rescinded.
What's with Megan Hilty as a stepsister? Seems a bit of a waste. Even though she's probably wrong for it, I'd rather have Ms. Hilty as Baker's Wife to Ms. Blunt. Its not like Emily Blunt is a megastar with box office appeal. Wouldn't do to have a stepsister outshine the Baker's Wife.

I'm glad it's confirmed! I think she'll be great in the movie.
Maybe this will be the role that makes me like her again, I thought she was so good in PRADA and so disappointing in so many other things, Marshall brings out the best in people a lot of the time and honestly I do prefer her over Reese Witherspoon (wonder if she was seriously considered). Nice cast coming together, now go ahead and cast Abigail Breslin and Anna Kendrick so I can be a happy boy.
I think Hilty is perfect for the Stepsister, she's not a star by any means, she has to pay her dues and this will be a great project to be a part of for her. Plus, it'll mean she'd have worked with Disney, never a bad studio to have on your side (especially given their involvement on Broadway).

Hilty has had other projects with Disney. She voices one of the fairies in the Tinkerbell films.

I also loved Blunt in 'Salmon Fishing in the Yemen'. That was my second favorite role from her next to her part in 'The Devil Wears Prada'. She was also very good as the voice of Juliet in 'Gnomeo and Juliet'.

Hilty's done some work for Disney before she guest-starred on 'The Suite Life of Zack and Cody' in 2007 and has also voiced Rosetta in the 'Tinker Bell' films when Kristin Chenoweth is unavailable. However, I do not see Hilty's name in the linked Vulture article.
That's great, I hope she continues working with them by being in this project.
I wonder if Jake Gyllenhaal isn't going to play the Baker after all, especially with the Hollywood Reporter saying the announcement of James Corden was "premature."
Hmmmm.
So, Megan Hilty IS going to be ITW?! It says on Broadwayworld.com, but is there any other source to confirm this? Tell me it's true, I love Megan.

Then who would the other Prince be? Maybe other reports got Gyllenhaal's role in the film mixed up like Depp's. Perhaps this still is the big musical movie Matthew Morrison is talking about. Maybe Morrison and Chris Pine are playing the Princes.

There's definitely a bit of "musical" chairs going on here.
Then again, we can all remember "Nine," starring Javier Bardem as Guido and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Claudia.
Ooops!

Do not judge Blun't singing on the karaoke clip. If you insist on judging her singing ability before seeing this movie use this clip instead.

Just for opinions' sake: Which would you all, as viewers and fans of the source material, prefer for the film?
LIVE SINGING or PLAYBACK

Live singing. Especially with Sondheim, it'd give the actors much more freedom when performing their numbers but it might be difficult with the prologue and any flashback songs like "I Know Things Now" etc
I just don't get it. Amy Adams was so wonderful... and she's an A-lister... it makes no sense not to use her. It's true that Megan Hilty is not a hollywood star, BUT they could easily MAKE her one by giving her a big hollywood staring role. That's how it works. If you want a star you have to make one. Some people here said she has to pay her dues... but honey she's done that. Someone just needs to take a chance and cast a broadway star in a major hollywood movie. Once upon a time someone took a chance and cast Barbra Streisand, and Liza Minnelli, and Julie Andrews... and the pay off was ten-fold. Not since that time has anyone taken a huge chance on a broadway star and we've all suffered for it. Audra should be an A-list hollywood actress, and Sutton, and Megan Hilty, and Jessie Mueller.... when will Hollywood learn?
I can't find in that article stating that Blount will be playing the Baker's wife. What am I missing? Maybe she is the other stepsister. I agree with using Amy, Sutton and Megan for some of these main roles.
i think live singing should be used sparingly. Some of it didn't work for me at all in Les Miz.
I Dreamed a Dream - great
Bring Him Home - awful
Empty Chairs -awful
I don't need to see an earthquake in your throat during a close-up. And I don't need to see acting fly out the window in favor of hitting the perfect note.
A mixture of pre-recorded and live should be used. I thought Dreamgirls did a nice job of mixing the two.
And I don't want anybody to try to sing live on camera behind prosthetic makeup (the Witch, the Wolf).
And what I really don't want to hear is AUTO=TUNING on anybody. That drove me nuts on Daniel Day-Lewis and Penelope Cruz especially in NINE. They sounded like robots.
There is only one actress of today who fits perfectly this casting description for Little Red Riding Hood:
A spoiled, clever, vain, smart alec. Seeks approval in place of love, of which she has had none. Fun character, adult playing a child. Mezzo-Soprano: B - High F.
And that is Miss Dorothy Faye Dunaway!
And don't tell me she can't hit a B or high F. First, listen to those tones she makes as she orgasms atop William Holden in Network. Secondly, if you get her food order wrong, you better cover your ears because her voice is going to get very high and there'll definitely be an F involved.
