I haven't heard a thing about this production! Interesting.
A friend of mine went to see it in Philadelphia and loved it. I just couldn't make it to Philly the weekend that it was there. I really like the show. I saw the 10th anniversary Broadway revival in 1988.

That would be me. The show was outstanding. Frenchie Davis and Ruben Studdard were awesome in the show. It is one of those shows that just works. Awesome music. Perfect staging. And when you have five performers as good as these five are, you really have a hit on your hands. They are all having a blast up there on that stage too and love performing the show every night. I was so impressed and I hope to see it again when it comes to the Bronx for one night. Absolutely go see it if it's playing near you.
Edit: The cast recording of the tour will be released soon also, and I know it is going to be excellent.

Oh, I'm glad to hear that, WAT. I love the show, and I was a big fan of Frenchie's before she was ousted from AI. (Still a big fan when I catch her on YouTube).
Frenchie has grown so much as an actress and singer. I think everyone who sees her performance will be pleasantly surprised. Her stage presence is incredible...and that voice! Such a nice person too. I am truly thrilled to have seen this production.

Where/When is this playing in NYC?
I saw a wonderful production of the show at the Goodman in Chicago last summer. I'm always wary about seeing it since it is one of those revues that is so easy to screw up.
It's coming to the Bronx on 5/16/09...

A thousand times yes, it's worth seeing.
I was also fortunate enough to see the original Broadway cast during the 1988 revival and this new cast is definitely worthy of the material.
I agree with everyone who mentions the fantastic talent on that stage and their wonderful chemistry together. It was most evident during "Black and Blue" which gave me goosebumps.
Frenchie channels Nell Carter quite a bit (and there is nothing wrong with that), but she made "Mean to Me" all her own, which is not an easy feat considering it's Nell's signature song.
By all means go and enjoy the show!
Love the photos of the show, but the contemporary photos on the poster are atrocious. Well, the whole poster is a confusing mess. They need to keep the graphics on the bottom and then completely start over.
Yes - I agree completely! From the posters, it looks as if Ruben and Frenchie are the "stars" of the show, but they were just as much of the ensemble as the rest of the talented cast. It was nice to see this show after sitting through the lifeless Non-Equity tour of CATS and Oliver. I'd definitely see it again!

Actually, the poster looks like Frenchie is opening for a Ruben concert. With all the different fonts and text blocks scattered about, it appears slapped together by a losing contestant of Sylista during a 10-minute challenge.
I'm seeing the final performance before their trek to the Bronx on the 13th.
Album Art.
Just grabbed 4 tickets for the Bronx performance. Arthur Ave. for dinner then off to the show! Can't wait!
The album art is muuuuuuuuch better.
The show isn't coming to my area, but I'm definitely buying the cast album. Ruben's got a great voice and I'm sure he does Waller's music proud.

The poster needs to be changed to the album art. I love the tribute to the original poster art, which was wonderful.
When it comes to revues I would say that AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' is the best of the best. And assuming this is a recreation of the original production, Arthur Faria's staging and choreography (along with Richard Maltby's direction) is absolutely fantastic. And there's hardly anything more powerful than how the cast performs the heartbreaking "Black and Blue" towards the end of the show. Pure magic.
I think it is now. The plain one was what they used for promo before the tour get off the ground.
Here's the full cover art.

Might have to make a trip to the Bronx. Plus, isn't it play at the Apollo? That's exciting as well.
