A funny story:
When Fats Waller left New York for Chicago to play a few gigs, he was 21 years old.
The ebullient young man with the dazzling jazz style was a big hit at the Sherman Hotel. His nightly audience included men with wide lapels and bulging pockets. One evening Fats felt a revolver poked into his paunchy stomach. He found himself bullied into a black limousine, heard the driver ordered to East Cicero. Sweat pouring down his body, Fats foresaw a premature end to his career, but on arrival at a fancy saloon, he was merely pushed toward a piano and told to play. He played. Loudest in applause was a beefy man with an unmistakable scar: Al Capone was having a birthday, and he, Fats, was a present from "the boys".
The party lasted three days. Fats exhausted himself and his repertoire, but with every request bills were stuffed into his pockets. He and Capone consumed vast quantities of food and drink. By the time the black limousine headed back to the Sherman, Fats had acquired severeal thousand dollars in cash and a decided taste for vintage champagne.

Jay, you must see it! The show is awesome!
Is the CD out yet? I know it was supposed to be released on January 13th and then it wasn't. Is it only on sale at the theatre?
Sadly the CD wasn't available at the show either (at least not the one I went to last weekend).
They only had a couple of t-shirts and a window card featuring the art from the promotional poster everyone dislikes.
I would have gotten the window card if it featured that fabulous album art, though.

I have to admit, i wasn't blown away by the production as a whole...but having said that it's pretty good and hearing the five of them sing "black and blue" gave me chills....if the rest of the show was bad...getting to hear them sing that song would've made it a worthwhile night....

Frenchie is Equity, so I'm assuming the show is Equity. But if thats the case... one nighters? On an Equity tour?! Must be Tier Z. Jeez.
Frenchie can become NON-Equity with CORE status. That means she can do both Equity & non, but have to pay out the ass to do it.

So it is a Non Eq show? That makes more sense.
I would assume so.

This is an Equity production....It is NOT a non EQUITY tour.
Yes, the production is Equity.
Okay. I just didn't think it was equity because our theatre NEVER gets equity.
Now that I've read all these positive comments I could kick myself. It was in this podunk place in which I live, and I did not go.
I have to agree that as far as musical revues go, this is probably THE best I've ever seen. It's rock-solid and deserved the Tony for Best Musical.
I also love Starting Here, Starting, Now ... And the World Goes 'Round ...
But Ain't Misbehavin' is the best.
By the way, since the original Broadway cast performed the show for Showtime, WHY hasn't that version been released on DVD? I have an old VHS I recorded off of A&E years ago. But this really deserves a DVD release!!

THen what Eq contract is it on that allows a big show like that to do one nighters?
Could someone please tell me what you mean by one nighters? Is it a short run?
TIA.
The tour is stopping in some cities and playing solely for one night and then moving on to the next city.
It definitely is the strangest tour schedule I've ever seen...it seems like the most they are ever at once location is for one weekend...
Has anyone bought the Cast Recording? I love the Original Cast and even the Pointer Sisters revival. Nothing beats the OBC, and I'm glad they preserved that cast on video. Now if they would just put it on DVD...
Is the CD out yet?
Nope.
According to Amazon, the CD will be released on March 24.
Got my CD today. I like it so far, but I don't really have anything to compare it to. I've heard a few of the songs before, but I don't own the OBCR so I can't really write a review.
I'm not a Frenchie Davis/Ruben Studdard fan by any stretch of the imagination, but bought tickets and swindled my parents into joining me (i.e buying me an Italian dinner on Arthur Avenue) by telling them Frenchie and Ruben were with the production.
Apparently, not anymore:

Kind of made me go "wtf?"
Love Roz Ryan so I'm sure I won't be disappointed, but that seems a little fishy...
I noticed that too. All the poster's I see on Hollywood Blvd. still have Frenchie and Ruben on them. Wasn't Trenyce from American Idol in this as well?
