Touche smartypenguin. On both parts. I like that agree to disagree statement. May I ask as you being a diehard fan of MP why the musical did not work for you. I mean the skits were pretty much the same as the movie with songs thrown it (and a gay subplot that was underwritten)
I have indeed, I believe you may be giving me an example right there. Looking back on some of your other posts, you're a master of the form. If that post I referenced was meant to be sarcastic though, it wasn't very good sarcasm ;P Perhaps if it hadn't been so random. I don't know, looking at it again it still doesn't seem like sarcasm, but only that guy can clear it up for us. You'll have to teach me to recognize the subtler arts of sarcasm.
Or are you saying that Spamalot is sarcastic?
I think it's fun, and I enjoy it-but that doesn't mean it's of any quality.

My problem with Spamalot was the audiences. If you have not seen the movies, every punch-line is ruined because everyone in the audience laughs before the joke is even told because they know what's coming up. I found that the most irritating!

I'm saying that Joe was being sarcastic. At least, that's how I interpreted it. Or he might really hate Piazza, you never know.
It's just you.
I think it's over rated too. That could be just cuz i find holy grail over rated too, so when they make a m usical out of it, im gonna think the same thing. Granted some of the songs are good, and it is funny, but i dont think it's really worth all hype.
Overrated according to whose criteria? One man's trash is another man's treasure. You may find it overrated (and many others will agree with you), but just as many love the show. In other words, is brie okay?
I was a little disappointed after I saw it. What was the fuss all about? DRS was much funnier to me. But, I did get to see Christopher Sieber who I love..........
It is what it is - an entertaining piece of fluff. It ain't worth $ 110. but than again no show is

It seems like a great "over the top" kind of show... but I definitely think Piazza should have won over it.
For obvious reasons
i was preety dissapointed... i waited a few hours in line to see it and i really didnt like it. i think any of the the other 3 shows that were nominated are better than spamalot.
Im FINALLY going to see it tomorrow night. I'll be sure to post a review and let you know what I think. I'll try to go in not influenced by posters on here...I'll try.

OK, so I just got back home from seeing today's (12-11) matinee. Christian Borle was out, but no big deal. The main leads (including Sara) were in. My wife and I chuckled throughout. There were no belly laughs or showstopping guffaws. Tim Curry slept walk through his performance. David Hyde Pierce, Hank Azaria and Chris Seiber were all very good given what they had to do. Sara Ramirez walked away with the show. Hands down! Her numbers were the best. And not even so much the numbers themselves, but what she DID with them. Some of the "bits" went out waaaaay too long (i.e. the sparrows and the coconuts), the lovingly ripped off jokes were just that, lovingly ripped off. We heard them before, we expected them. When we laughed, it wasn't a "oh my that's brilliant", it was more of a rememberance to the film. I did not hate the show, by any stretch. It was certainly not one of my favorites. Usually, when a performer is out, I will try to go back and catch him or her on another day, if I don't get a refund or whatever. I don't feel the need to go back and see Christian Borle. Plus there was a guy behind me who apparently thought he was at ROCKY HORROR becuase he was singing along and shouting out all the dialogue. Upon leaving the Shubert my wife looked at me and said, "Well, that was a waste of 2 1/2 hours" so that about summed up her opinion. IMHO, I feel PIAZZA was the Best Musical of the season. But again, I don't vote. Producers vote. They can market this one on the road. They probably could not have marketed PIAZZA. Or do we really need to open up that URINETOWN-MILLIE can of worms?!?! LOL
Man, it all comes down to money. That sucks.
