And are people getting jealous of him for this reason?
Thoughts?
Well, he's a lock for a nominee, but I don't think there's a clear frontrunner this year. Jealous? Maybe someone is, but I can't imagine why.
I loved his performance, and several other leading male performances this year, but i just can't decide who I think gives the best performance. It's definitely between Cerveris, Young, and Connick for me.
I don't think there is a Tony front runner... there is a three person race between Michael, JLY, and Harry Connick Jr... I think it will be a really close finish.

Connick? Nom, yes. Win, no. It's between Cerveris and Young.
I wouldn't rule him out, yet.

Umm..did you guys see Pajama Game? It's gonna be between Cerveris and Young, but I think Young will pull it out because he's such a newcomer. I mean, it wasn't that long ago that he was ushering for Chitty, while Cerveris has been on Broadway forever, it seems.
Of course I saw THE PAJAMA GAME...did YOU?
Yea, but people on Broadway went Harry Connick Jr to come back... let me clarify... producers on broadway... and no... I did not see the Pajama Game... but I did see the reviews and the box office... and they same to place Harry Connick near the top.

He's obviously the front runner - why else did a publicist for one of his competitors so obviously plant that story in the Post today? So transparent. Do they really think Tony voters don't know about smear campaigns?
I'm predicting that Young will win, and deservedly so.
I know that Jersey Boys is great, and kind of the exception to the rule, if you will, but.... after the jukebox shows were entirely snubbed last year, even in terms of nominations, does anyone think the politics of the matter could get in the way here?

Am I missing something? John Lloyd Young was an usher for Chitty?
No, I really don't think so - mainly because literally all the other new musicals this year are sub-par. They don't have the room to allow for JERSEY BOYS snubs.

He, unlike the other nominees, is a true powerhouse. You can tell he wanted this moment for a long time. I think this man is a true winner.
JLY will win the Tony this year.
Munk, I don't think they'll deny him a nomination, for that reason and because I'm sure he's quite good (I haven't seen the show yet), but I meant that the politics could keep him from winning.

Um...y'all are forgetting Bob Martin.
No, w'all not.
I loved him - but his performance is no threat for, or as great as those mentioned before.

I beg to differ. I found him significantly better than John and Michael. Not that they aren't wonderful, but he has some pretty unique material to work with.
Not really. His material (that he wrote) is sarcastic, and quirky, and funny - but he's basically playing himself. Cerveris reaches a great depth that Martin can't even touch.

Cerveris, for me, was over-directed, and trying to play against a role that has an amazing stamp on it. And, that limited his choices. What he ended up with was a nice version of Sweeney, but a version that lacks when compared to those who have gone before him. And, as such, I didn't see the depth you saw. I saw an actor doing everyhting he could to "change" the part.
Change the part? I couldn't disagree more.
I could see disliking his interpretation, but aren't people always going on about how an actor is supposed make a role his own? If you go there, that comment doesn't make very much sense.

I've never thought actors should make the part their own. it IS their own. They are supposed to translate the story to their audience in the most effective way.
