Is there Room For Sing Street and The Wrong Man?

NY Post are claiming that Sing Street and The Wrong Man could be last-minute contenders for the 2019/20 Tony Awards race...

Thoughts?

The Cort, Sondheim, Neil Simon and Lyceum have not yet announced Spring 2020 productions, and the Circle In The Square could also get a new production for April if Oklahoma doesnt extend beyond January. Could any of these host these two risky but fascinating musicals? What about other musicals being promoted as Broadway-bound?

The propsect that these two could wait to 2020-21 is plausible, but if they are well-reviewed, they could get to Broadway earlier. Sing Street aims to be the next Once, and is produced by prominent film producer Barabara Boccoli (who supervises the James Bond films!) - it could be a decent commerical bet, and thus front in the line when small productions start closing. Meanwhile, The Wrong Man is probably aiming to be the production which FINALLY gets Joshua Henry a Tony win. If this is the case, opening it in April 2020 would make more sense than waiting until 2020-21, as that season will probably be domianted by Hugh Jackman in The Music Man...

Do production companies put together an entire show, hire significantly large-name creators and artists, and raise millions of dollars, just so one person can win an award? I agree that Joshua Henry deserves a Tony but I doubt The Wrong Man's aiming to do that. It really depends on how the production is received and whether it is considered a risk worth taking.

I would personally love to see Lempicka on Broadway, which received raves out of town, but clearly the creators don't think it's ready. Yet.

I think the most recent rumor was Bees is considering London first, and then Broadway...next season? Not entirely sure what’s going on with that one, but LOVED it downtown

Sing Street's schedule is up on the NYTW website, and performances are currently scheduled from 11/25/19 - 1/12/20. Tickets go on sale to the general public on 10/4.
