Now can we recognize that buying tickets to Cursed Child is putting $ straight into this anti-trans organization? Where's the outrage?
There was a poster who was very diligent in pointing this out regularly, but it seemed like most folks here couldn't be bothered. They were more irritated by him than by Rowling.
She's reprehensible. And though I generally think it's doable to separate the art from the artist, she has made it impossible.

She was incredibly wealthy before "Cursed Child" ever hit the West End and Broadway stages. The show is on its last legs on Broadway and will probably close in the near future. Most of the general public does not know or care what she does with her money, they just want to read her books, see her movies and shows. If you are outraged, then boycott her show. Get people together and march with signs around the theater to protest. That will do more than posting something on BWW board.

It is wild that this assh*le is somehow less headline-making & controversial than Patti LuPone…

Cue the excusers.
It’s really not for you to say who posts what “on BWW board”.
And how do you know his post won’t do anything? Everyone on the planet is not aware that Rowling is a low life bigoted hag, and I for one did not know she was funding an anti-trans organization. Am glad to find out. I will avoid anything that witch is involved with like the plague.

The point of the post is to spread awareness. People don't know to boycott if they know nothing about Rowling's agenda. (This seems obvious but apparently it isn't to everyone).
Where's the outrage?"
So, this isn't anything new. We've known about her views since at least 2019 so that's given people plenty of time to boycott her work. I've never read/watched anything in her universe (just not a child wizard fan) so boycotting isn't a problem for me and truly, when a person uses their own money to open a center (under the guise of helping women), there isn't anything else to do. It's a shame considering she used to give money to great causes like at risk women and children. However, her campaign against trans identity and making it the central focus of her entire life has really erased that. I have no idea what happened to her to make her feel this way, but her transparent hatred makes it really easy for people to avoid anything she creates.

I think that a good chunk of people agree that JK Rowling is awful. I don't think there are a ton of people who are active on this board who are regularly purchasing tickets to Cursed Child.

The selective outrage in the theater community is, always has been, and always will be laughable.

There should be an open letter from the theater community demanding that any actor who has been in Cursed Child be disinvited from any industry event due to their support of Rowling.
sarcasm, obviously

Well, J.K. Rowling didn't call Glenn Close a bitch, now did she?
The estate of JM Barrie wound up using a legal loophole to give Peter Pan an eternal British copyright to fund a children’s hospital in the UK. I suspect JK will try to do the same so there will never be a “death of the author” scenario.

Don't know if this is still the case, but there was a time immediately post-shutdown where CC actually had the best record of almost any show on Broadway of hiring trans and nonbinary performers. (I think the only show that might have even been close was Jagged Little Pill, and we all know how that turned out.)

Why are you allowing her to live rent free inside your head?

What exactly is the point of this dumbass response?
Gay man here. While I find her repulsive. The sad part is she’s allowed to believe what she wants, she’s also allowed to say it. Do I agree absolutely not, do I support her, no.
can I call her a vile repugnant waste of space, yes. Does everyone need to agree with that opinion. No!

Rowling's views are absolutely reprehensible, and she has destroyed her legacy, but Cursed Child is the only HP property where supporting it feels kind of morally grey. When compared to what she makes from book sales and movie residuals, the money Rowling receives from the various productions of Cursed Child is probably a pretty small amount of her net worth. For the cast and crew of Cursed Child? This show is their primary source of income. Hundreds of people and their families (virtually none of whom share Rowling's views) rely on this show to make a living.

I never thought of it that way before, but now I agree.

Um, that's actually the good part. Her actual views are hideous. That she is free to express them is good news. In an era where Trump is arresting people for not holding the right postions, and fascism is spreading across Europe, I don't think we should deplore freedom of speech, no matter how much we hate the speech in question.
