Posted: 4/22/13 at 8:41pmI had no interest in ever seeing this production of ANNIE again. But I'll go for Jane Lynch.

Okay, I'm gonna hijack this thread by suggesting that Jane, not Babs, do the movie of Gypsy! Of course the studio would have to pop for an auto-tune machine, but even so...
Thanks for posting.

Posted: 4/22/13 at 8:44pmWhat the heck? If she can sing this well, why doesn't she sing more? I'd rather hear her than Jayma Mays.

Posted: 4/22/13 at 8:55pm^I promise she won't sound that good 8 times a week. Or even once a week...

Posted: 4/22/13 at 8:58pmOh, you promise? I'll take your word for it.

Posted: 4/22/13 at 9:15pmWell, I meant sing on Glee.

Posted: 4/22/13 at 9:16pmWont be that smooth or strong on Broadway I can guarantee, but she will finesse it.

Posted: 4/22/13 at 9:26pmThe auto-tuning is way over the top. Somewhere in all that technology, I think she has a decent voice.

Posted: 4/22/13 at 9:35pmShe sounded pretty good on SNL. Much worse singers have played Hannigan. It's a comedic acting part.

She won't have autotune in the theatre.
Autotune can be used during a live performance. It happens.

Posted: 4/23/13 at 1:34amAlso, they've lowered the key for her here by a major 3rd...

Lowered keys don't bother me at all.
Sounding like the Tin Man whenever you sing a "perfect" note does.

Posted: 4/23/13 at 8:50ambest12, I wasn't complaining about the lowered key. I meant that if they're NOT going to lower the key for her in the show, it's not going to be as easy for her to do 8 times a week.

Posted: 4/23/13 at 9:12amI hope she has a more individual sound in the show, so far this is just Carol Burnett...

bjh2114---gotcha. I just don't understand the obsession with keeping the same key (in general). It's like casting someone because they fit the costume or look good in the wig (in some cases, that happens, too) rather than casting someone who is right for the part.
I think the assembly line approach to theatre is pretty sad. I would much rather see the creative team work with the actor they hired to make it the best they can. Not try to make it the best someone who previously played the part can.
It does sound like Lynch can sing. Certainly well enough to play Hannigan. I just don't like the robotic auto-tuned tones in this recording. Way too mechanical.

Posted: 4/23/13 at 10:17amI really didn't enjoy this production at all, but she may be just what the show needs, to be better. Not good, better.

Posted: 4/23/13 at 11:41amConsidering that when I saw the production on Sunday Katie essentially screamed and screached through Little Girls and Easy Street, I think Jane will be fine. I have a feeling even though Jane Lynch was mist certainly cast as Miss Hannigan because Lynch is almost always typecast as the heartless b****, she is going to try and bring some warmth to Miss Hannigan, to try and play against type.
