See the reason she’s become so fascinating in the last few years is that all of this is true but when you look at her career overall, it’s been true many times.
She’s had multiple flop albums, been in many unsuccessful films, and had enough bad press to last many people a lifetime. But she has this uncanny ability to somehow come back around on top. Honestly I’ve become so charmed by watching it happen. How will La Lopez beat the odds this week, month, century. I’m convinced she’ll outlive us all through sheer willpower.
Even the flop movie. She spent 20 million of her own dollars on it and then Amazon gave her 30 million to purchase it. For the visualcomponent to a “visual album” no one ever planned to listen to. And Netflix paid her 16 million dollars for that god awful sci-fi movie she did last year that wouldn’t leave their Top Ten for weeks on end. It feels like it shouldn’t be possible because she’s not obviously talented in the ways people think should make it possible but La Lopez always seems to walkaway whistling a happy tune."
Jlo's talent is hustling and I can't fault her for that. Like you said, a track record like her's would have killed the career of most people.

So, basically, she's Cher.

...minus the number of hits. ...or successful movie roles.
Last week I asked a drag queen I know who does Cher impersonations a lot, what they thought of her recent SNL performances - which were so obviously lip synced. They said "She was fantastic! She's 79, we should be grateful she's still standing!"
Oh, boy. JLo. No, ma’am. Just no.

Whatever Cowboy Carter's artistic merit, I liked it a lot more than Renaissance, the Cowboy Carter tour was having trouble moving tickets, at least compared to previous Beyonce tours. Considering Lopez just canceled a tour because of horrible ticket sales, an unexpected genre is a really risky move as a business decision.

Oh no, she could absolutely do Broadway. He'll, why don't we add a 9th show?

...and yet it got Beyoncé (2) Grammys for "Country Duo/Group Performance" and her very first "Album of the Year". (The significance of that may vary depending on the value/respect anyone pays to the Grammys.)
Yes, it's risky, but sometimes risks pay off when the talent is also present.
JLo is no Beyonce.

I believe I implied that. ![]()
Bless her heart. She’s so convinced she has the pipes that she chooses this to sing live instead of using a pre-recorded track. Her tenacity is fantastic.
