I doubt she wants to do 8 shows a week, but I think she could and I'm sure she's gotten offers (outside of the Weisslers)

I feel like I’ve heard her talk about doing it for years. She’s definitely a NY girl who loves it, but it’s a commitment and when there’s way more money to earn elsewhere, she goes there. Her movies and tours haven’t been as successful as of late, so maybe she’ll actually follow through one day.

I'm not saying it's true, or factual.

I do wonder, though if she's making a business decision to replicate Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter success (by re-establishing herself in an unexpected genre).

I've never thought of JLo as a musical theater artist. I'm glad for her, that she's in her "Happy Era", though. Good for her!

I don't hold any interest in what she brings to the musical theater genre, however. (I'm sure others may.) She just seems to me like JLo singing a style that brings little excitement to either the artist, or the genre.

You DO realize she's lip synching most of those Broadway songs, right? You can clearly see it when she's lipping 'Let me entertain you' when the mic goes away

She can't keep up a full show singing live, let alone a Broadway show 8 times a week

I've always felt she'd be a PERFECT Satine, and i'm sure would have no problems singing a handful of songs from that score 8 times a week.  Moulin Rouge is  totally within her wheel house

Eh

Broadway / Bway music doesn’t need a lip sync queen

Is that, "You" directed toward me? If so, no - I did not/do not realize she's lip-syncing.

As I said, I don't hold any interest in what she brings to the musical theater genre. I'm very happy to let others enjoy what she does/does not do in that genre (including lip-syncing, if that's true).

Okay, I will give her kudos as she does have decent pipes. With some vocal coaching she’d be more that adequate to carry a Broadway score.

I feel like that arrangement had some "written-in" opportunity for goosebumps when it went from "This Land Is Your Land" into "America the Beautiful" (the rallentando, the modulation...).

I feel like JLo dropped the ball. The melismas were present, but where was the underlying energy, and the vocal dynamics to carry the melody from Point A to a goosebump-inducing Point B?

How about a February residency at The Palace??? I’d take the 6 train in for that!

Im not saying she would necessarily be good, but id be intrigued to see her attempt Desiree Armfeldt in Night Music.

I think that would be cruel, especially since you're "not saying she would necessarily be good".

There are some outstanding actresses who have played the role (Dame Judi Dench is my personal favorite). IMO, to place JLo (based on her demonstrated abilities, which maybe you agree with me aboutn?) in a position of being critiqued within the same category as those actresses, is why I say "cruel".

Girl, I've been a fan of JLo since she was dancing in In Living Colour. But, she'd get Beanie'd out of Broadway. Stahp!

I quite like JLo, but she is very inconsistent. But with some training im curious to see what she could do with it.

There have been some outstanding actresses true, but also some middle of the road and awful too. And im just not sure where she would fit in the scale.

She can do diva actress, she can do humour, and id be intrigued to see (with training and commitment) if someone could bring the dramatic actress out of her too.

I wasnt especially thinking so far as a full production or her being reviewed. More just pondering on what could be in terms of her abilities.

She doesn't sing when the mic is away during that song. And she was off key in a few of the songs. (My thought is that she may have sung them after a big production number) I doubt they would use an off key recorded vocal for a live performance.

I am not a real JLo fan. Liked her hits and saw 2 of her early movies on video. Could care less about her personal life, which has kept her in the public eye for years. But the woman is driven and can still dance her butt off.  Gotta give her that. Acting wise I think she would do ok onstage and with the right score, musical arrangements and choreography, she would be ok.  Just my random thoughts and opinion.

The thing is, what you’re seeing *is* her voice with the training. She simply will never be a strong singer.

She’d be much better served by a play that leaves room for personality. Much better actress than people give her credit for if you don’t ask her to “disappear.” (Which is pointless. Who wants to watch a star disappear?)

So what’s her brand as a star, that can be catered to? I hope you won’t think me crude if I say JLo’s brand is “milf:” she’s not the youngest but is the fittest, hottest and toughest in any room she walks into. She balances high glamour and diva vibes with a gritty down-to-earth side. Like a Nuyorican Auntie Mame.

In fact, that’s my pitch if I were her agent: a new adaptation/reimagining of the Patrick Dennis novels, about a little gay Puerto Rican boy suddenly sent to live with his tia, the queen of the boogaloo/salsa/street music and house party scene of the 1960s.

Ooooo, I wouldn’t have thought of that but I think an Auntie Mame reimagining might be perfect actually.

After much thinking on the subject I’ve decided she’s strangely sincere when performing in a way that allows for high drama or a certain hokeyness without really losing me. So Mame would be good.

Also in Patrick Dennis world is the much married Belle Poitrine, who in her other Broadway adaptation was turned into more of springboard for a star actor. Maybe a new adaptation with more focus for Belle? Too meta?

I’d maybe pair her with Douglas Carter Beane too. I wonder why more of the Hollywood stars don’t pay someone to write a play for them. The Ritz isn’t the funniest play ever, but it was tailor made for Rita and got her the Tony.

In what world? She routinely lipsynchs...

After a flop documentary, a flop album, a flop movie and a cancelled tour, I'd say the JLo moment is finally over.

Why not the revival of Kiss of the Spider Woman? That music seems very in her wheelhouse and her name would certainly help sell tickets. Whether the movie was a flop or not, didn’t she receive favorable reviews? Many who’ve never even heard of the show or movie would be drawn into see her, and I don’t recall the role being particularly demanding in the stage version - more like a star cast role à la Vanessa Williams. I’ve heard we’re overdue for a revival.

See the reason she’s become so fascinating to me in the last few years is that all of this is true but when you look at her career overall, it’s been true many times.

She’s had multiple flop albums, been in many unsuccessful films, and had enough bad press to last many people a lifetime. But she has this uncanny ability to somehow come back around on top. Honestly I’ve become so charmed by watching it happen. How will La Lopez beat the odds this week, month, century. I’m convinced she’ll outlive us all through sheer willpower.

Even the flop movie. She spent 20 million of her own dollars on it and then Amazon gave her 30 million to purchase it. For the visual component to a “visual album” no one ever planned to listen to. And Netflix paid her 16 million dollars for that god awful sci-fi movie she did last year that wouldn’t leave their Top Ten for weeks on end. It feels like it shouldn’t be possible because she’s not obviously talented in the ways people think should make it possible but La Lopez always seems to walk away whistling a happy tune.

Jlo's talent is hustling and I can't fault her for that. Like you said, a track record like her's would have killed the career of most people.
