I think Ashlle Simpson would be horrible for Elphie, yeah, she looks more the part, but he voice isn't great.. her show almost proved that, she messed up so many times and where your on stage, you can't afford to mess up, you have one shot to do it and one shot only

missed the concept of "rehearsal"? ever recorded a cd of your own, i know for the last 2 demos i've recorded I needed quite a few tries to get everything exactly the way I wanted it to be.

Its not that she needed a few takes, its the fact that she was just off-key and horrible in most rehearsals with the band and recording sessions. And she would always blame it on someone/something else.

What is Broadway? A street? Some say it's a street. Some say it is the best street in the world. Others think its terrible. That's the beauty of it, it's terribly beautiful. Some hate it and don't know why. Others love it and don't know why. That's what makes it so wonderful, it's a mystery.

BG2- There's a certain someone who also looks like he's doing bad things with the microphone. Ring any bells?

but the point is she's not famous for singing- she's famous for being ignorant. there's a difference.

Jessica Simpson is great. Why does everyone have to be so mean?

because SHE CAN'T SING, and she's not intelligent, and she's done nothing to deserve the enormous success she has. because there are people giving their 110% eight times a week on broadway who don't make a lot of money and aren't famous, but are a thousand times more talented than that stupid hick! i'm not talking about idina, i'm talking about all the folks in the chorus, the kids auditioning going "i hope i get it- i hope i get it!" when they've gone to school and studied and tried and they're not making it but SHE is, and only because mtv told you to. it's sad people are lapping up the crap she's dishing out. she doesn't deserve to be on broadway, she deserves mtv.

"because SHE CAN'T SING, and she's not intelligent, and she's done nothing to deserve the enormous success she has."

firstly, she CAN sing.
second, she is intelligent, MTV pays her to act like a moron
thirdly, i think (what is it, 3?) at least platinum albums say she's doing something right. And that doesn't come from "mtv telling us to" make it that way. Thank YOU very much.

I find it funny that everyone is freaking out over this and it was never official--it was hypothetical.

Once and for all, let's stop blaming the celebrities themselves for "name" lead casting. Yes, people in the chorus work hard too. However, ticket prices are insane - it's very expensive to produce a show on Broadway - and tourists, who make up the large majority of theater consumers, don't want to spend that without knowing to some extent what they're going to get. The few of us who post on this board may feel we'd love to see a chorus kid make good, like in the old days, but producers have bills to pay. They can't mount a show that a relative few number of ticket buyers are going to go see.

I think Idina sounds good on the cast recording but I didn't see her when I saw Wicked, I saw Eden. I can't really imagine Jessica as Elphaba. She's too...blonde. And perky. And stupid.

I think Jessica Simpson would make a great Maureen in RENT.

Good Philosophy....there's gotta be something behind his contempt

Idk, many people don't like Idina. I don't think anyone really worships her...but people do like her. Not saying any of you have to but...when some singers scream...THEY SCREAM! I personally think Idina's scream is far prettier than that of a wife yelling at her husband lol. My point is, no singer really "screams" they belt lol. And I thought the score of Wicked is written where in certain parts you're supposed to belt. Maybe it's just me but I think Idina is a very powerful actress/singer. Every role in every show is different. Not every character in every show is meant to sound sweet and sing operetic...just take Rent for example. There's a lot of belting in that too. It's for effect I think...and Idina gives much of that. Im not saying this to be mean. You don't have to like her but don't say mean things about her. I think every performer needs to be respected and looked at for what they CAN do. Idina can do a lot more than most of us. I really don't want to be mean and Im not trying to be but just look at each performer for what they can do and try to respect them. No matter who it is.

I LOVE female belting. But Idina's belting is unhealthy and incorrect and I don't really find it enjoyable.

Good, Healthy Female Belters: Julia Murney, Stephanie Block, Eden Espinosa.

Stephanie Block is great! You're right about that one. Yeah sometimes she sounds like she's pushing too hard. That's not what I meant, I just meant all performers should be respected :), but those examples you posted are great!

A good belter knows when to start mixing. Idina doesn't always do that, as much as I love her.

Would you consider Sutton Foster to have a "good, healthy" female belt?

We'd have another Antonio & Melanie on our hands. Nick would be in Wicked and Jessica would go join Chicago just so she could be up there with her hubby.
