I agree. He's probably the nicest person at a stage door. He genuinely seems to want to have a conversation with everyone (no matter how crazy the group is...) there. A real star. A much deserved win.
I hope he had a great night of getting drunk/laid/whatever he sees as celebrating!
I'm surprised at all of the agreement on this one, but I too fully agree that this was one deserved win for Spring Awakening. I left the show not especially impressed with any performance except for Gallagher's, which is wonderful.
Sorry, curly, no links I can find at moment! I know he's sang a couple of times for people on video, kissed fans on the cheek in pictures (though I bet that was a bit awkward). I've seen pictures of him doing the "Touch Me" poses with a fan. Fun guy. He has a really good sense of humor.
thats not creepy considering the most.... "photographically aggressive" seem to be younger. Or maybe thats just me. Not saying anything bad about him. It just seems like a very awkward situation and who would ask for a kiss? Too too too personal for a stage door.....
I feel bad for these SPRING actors. I think that because they're younger, fans feel they can be more "out there" with them and they won't mind, and that's not necessarily true. Cast members like Jonny B. Wright and Phoebe Strole put more distance between themselves and the fans, which may come off better in the end. Fans may think that makes them mean, but they're probably just trying not to get the fan's feelings hurt in the end, when one might end up thinking that they're "friends" with them because they've posed for a funny picture at the stage door.
Johnny Gallagher's a sweet guy to humor these fans, though.
jg4892, I didn't say they were mean. But from what I've heard (I do have friends that are "Guilty Ones"), they don't talk and interact quite as much as some of the others do. Not saying they're mean, but more distanced. How each actor decides to approach a fan situation is up to them, and I don't care either way, but some of the crazies may start thinking since John Gallagher Jr. joked with them when they proposed marriage, they can just keep going with it. Kind of scary.
Sometimes you may not be able to tell who's just joking and who's completely serious.
I think it's awesome that he won as well. When I met him after I saw the show in March, I was so blown away by his performance, I told him, you get your tony man. He said "nah" and I said to him, "You get your ****ing tony". then he said to me. " That is the sweetest thing, I'm gonna take that and put it under my pillow". I thought that was pretty cool. I think it's awesome that he one and he totally gave a shout out to for his friend's birthday. that's sweet.
I'm not a huge fan of Spring Awakening, but I really thought that John deserved his award. I was very happy to see him win and his speech was very gracious and enthusiastic. I can't wait to see what he has in store next.
Everyone in the theatre last night gave him the biggest round of applause I've ever seen before he even said a word. I was too far away but apparently he was in tears during the curtain call. He was so incredibly gracious at the stage door.
No I didn't rush..I just spent my tax refund on it..lol
When the cast first came out the audience also went wild and gave them a standing ovation for a good minute they also went crazy after "Totally F*****" During intermission I thought I saw Duncan Sheik talking with some people but I was in the mezz and couldn't really tell but he, Stephen and Michael were all there and signed autographs (well not really Duncan)after the show.
I could not agree more with all of this completely deserved love being thrown onto Gallagher and I was SO GLAD to see this thread!
Personally, I am so glad to see the brilliant SPRING AWAKENING get everything it rightfully deserves, especially a trophy for Gallagher. He is the nicest guy and delivered one of the strongest performances I have ever seen on stage.
Kudos to him for his win and kudos for giving such a remarkable performance.
I have seen the show twice already (once in the front row and once on the stage) and think I am going again. I have met Gallagher and agree that he is the NICEST guy and I can't wait to see him again and compliment him personally at the stage door...a comment to which he will be very humble and modest...because he is awesome and a genuinely nice person. I can't wait to see what is to come for him in the future and I will be there every step of the way!!!
If only there were just more actors (and people) like him...
