For those keeping track of Kieran Culkin's attendance record at awards shows, he delighted the audience at Sunday's SAG Awards with another of his comic and spontaneous acceptance speeches. (Video below.) And for the record, Oscar voting ended last Tuesday, so his appearance or possible no-show at the SAGs will have no bearing on whether he wins an Academy Award this Sunday. Like the members of BAFTA, the Oscar voters will vote ostensibly based on Culkin's appearance on the big screen in ''A Real Pain,'' not on his appearances at other award shows. He also indicated to an interviewer that he'll be at the Academy Awards this weekend.
''I would see this play in previews. otherwise my guess is Culkin is out. A LOT.''
Can we please be fair, and give Culkin the benefit of the doubt, and NOT cast aspersions on his attendance even BEFORE ''Glengarry Glen Ross'' begins previews on March 10? I assume it's no accident that March 10 was chosen, so it's at least over a week after the Oscars (March 2) and wouldn't pose any conflict for Culkin.

He missed the big awards (critics choice, WGA) in LA last weekend due to rehearsals for GGR. ok fine. Committed but he has a real chance for an Oscar and his Director/Screenwriter Eisenberg would have loved his support. That stage looked empty without anyone else there.
Now he misses BAFTA because of a sick family member. I'm sorry sweetie, but the show must go on. Get on the plane. London is 5 hours away and I'm sure Fox Searchlight offered up a private jet. Get on the plane. if not Delta One has a nice service JFK-LHR.

Sad part is, there are actors out there who care nothing but awards.
I'm glad Culkin isn't one of them.

What happened to the March ticket inventory? I purchased my ticket 10 days ago and although the prices already were fluctuating towards increase, there were still plenty of fairly priced seats available, especially in the mezzanine. I checked today and several March dates are fully sold out and remaining tickets are $500 and up. Did Culkin's nominations and subsequent recent wins really make that much of a difference? Those tickets are gone...

"ostensibly" is doing A LOT of work there. It is very naive to claim that social appearances/interactions at predecessor award shows and other industry activities have no bearing on who takes home the Oscar trophy each year. It matters a LOT. Giving a great speech at Globes,BAFTA, indie spirit awards, or SAG generally has a big impact. SAG less so this year since Oscar voting closed before SAG awards. BUT the SAG members are by far the largest voting block in the Academy, so often times the way SAG goes, so goes the Oscar (last year was one notable exception with Gladstone winning SAG, Stone winning Oscar).
Phase 2 (between noms and award ceremony) is hugely important to winning an Oscar award. All of the film studios have TEAMS of award strategists, PR, and social media people. To disregard the impact of all that hubbub is foolish.

I guess I think it's equally foolish to overgeneralize and ascribe too much cause-and-effect to pre-Oscar awards show appearances. Sometimes, it matters a great deal; sometimes not. I'd agree that Demi Moore's impactful acceptance speech at the Golden Globes made her the Oscar front-runner. And it mostly likely led to her wins at Critics' Choice and SAG. However, only days earlier, she lost Best Actress to Mikey Madison from ''Anora,'' which was skunked at Globes but won PGA, DGA and Critics' Choice.
Adrien Brody has won Best Actor at the Globes, Critics' Choice and BAFTA, and given speeches at those three televised awards shows, and yet SAG voters still picked Timothee Chalamet. Conversely, Chalamet's SAG win doesn't guarantee an Academy Award. We'll see soon!
In Kieran Culkin's case, he's swept every major precursor award for Supporting Actor, starting in early December with the National Board of Review and the N.Y. Film Critics Circle. He then won the Globe. And he was a notable no-show for his wins at Critics' Choice, BAFTA and the Indie Spirits, which has meant diddly-squat. On the heels of his SAG win, he's widely predicted to pick up an Academy Award, too. If he does, he'll defy the ''experts'' who were skeptical he'd win because he's not in a Best Picture nominee. He'd be the first Supporting Actor winner from a non-Best Picture movie since Christopher Plummer in ''Beginners'' (2012).

How is the rear mezzanine at the Palace? Trying to find somewhat affordable seats.

Just grabbed a $162 ticket, after that OSCAR win all the tickets are going to go up even higher any minute, possibly over $1000

Looked at getting tickets for this for my Dad’s birthday (He is a huge Better Call Saul fan and having Bob AND Michael in the same show - amazing)… but who can afford this?!? Prices are insane. Ooof. And Kieran’s (well deserved) Oscar win is certainly going to drive up prices even more. Ooof.

I actually remember thinking the prices weren't bad when I bought a pair day one, but maybe that was just in comparison to things like Othello and GD&GL. I paid $179 for second row mezz. That's way cheaper than a similar ticket to something like Dead Outlaw or MHE
EDIT: I just checked again and prices are definitely higher than when I paid, but the mezz is still way cheaper than the orchestra seats. First and second row mezz are $250 while the row they overhang in the orchestra are more than double that. And the Mezz seats are still cheaper than things like MHE and Dead Outlaw and basically the same as Mincemeat

I was fortunate enough to secure one of these tickets while they were available. Orchestra row Q. Sold my originally bought front mezzanine ticket in seconds on Theatr. This and Othello are going to break some records, I hope.
