Posted: 6/17/14 at 8:21pmI don't remember talk of it being non equity. It's just a first national going out on a third tier contract.

Has Porters departure in December made official yet? I am sure he is taking break before doing this.
Billy Porter to direct.

Posted: 6/17/14 at 10:35pmNot non-union, but they're getting like 700/wk, which is not the usual for a first national. Especially of one that's been such a hit in NYC.

Posted: 6/18/14 at 11:17amThe millionaire producers are disgusting, greedy pigs. They stand to make tens of millions of dollars from the tour. Can't they spread the wealth around? What's another 30-50 thousand dollars a week to give to the hard working performers. The salaries they are paying go back to the 1980's. And Equity is a bunch of pussies for giving in to them. Guess they were afraid the show would go out non Equity so they feel they are saving jobs- but at what cost to the actors? Offering $90 a performance for a Tony Award winning show is unforgivable. BARF.

Evic,
That's actually not how tours work. The financial structure for Producers to make money is completely different than a Broadway production. Dont blame the PRODUCERS. Blame local presenters.

Posted: 6/18/14 at 12:59pmHey Guy-I know nothing about the financial structures of touring shows, but I do know that presenters charge almost Broadway prices for tickets and this tour has No Star salaries to pay. No excuse. They will all make a fortune except the actors.

The tiered contracts also give bonuses to the actors as the show does well. So if the show is a success, the actors make the equivalent to a Broadway production contract.
In theory, if the show does well, so do the actors. And if the tour doesn't do well, then the actors salaries are lower in hopes to keep the running cost down and keep the show running. I think it's actually a very smart business model on both sides. The actors will be employed longer, even if the show is not as successful as hoped, but as the producers get more money, so do the actors.

I don't think Billy is leaving yet so no future replacement is out there, as far as I know..
I am not sure why Billy "should" tour...it's not like he's a household name that will draw tickets and Kyle will be fabulous.
Do Tony winners ever tour? That's a sincere question..I just don't know the answer.

In response to "Do Tony winners ever tour?" the most recent example is yes, Alice Ripley toured with Next to Normal.
Lin-Manuel Miranda did a city or two with In the Heights, and Norbert did the same with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. So, occasionally. It's not common.

Cherry Jones toured with Doubt.
I think this tour is risky-Im not sure its a surefire success. They are right to add in a little cushion.

Posted: 6/21/14 at 1:20amEvic, with all due respect, the PRESENTERS have the potential to make a lot more money due to the tier, that does not mean the producers or actors will see much of it, but if it sells notably well in cities, the actors as well as the producers will get higher pay. As you said, you nothing about the financial structure, so please research it before speaking with attempts at authority. AEA actually recently posted a 30 minute video with an in depth exploration of how the financing of tours works and how the presenters make money, how the producers are paid - they get a set fee, plus a lopsided share of extra profits that does not always favor them, and how actor salaries and additional pay are established. Do not knock the producers of Kinky Boots on this one. They would like to be paid more too.
