I'd love to see Rosario Dawson as Vanessa and Rita Moreno as Abuela.

Very excited that this seems to be picking up rather quickly!
You guys must have missed Vergara's Broadway debut- girl can't sing.
I can't wait to see a Nina who looks like a college student!

America Ferrara has auditioned, though I don't know for what part.
I enjoyed ITH. Saw it twice in fact. However, I don't know how much of an audience this has as a film. I haven't been able to convince my HS students to see this as one of their choices for their annual NYC weekend...and I've tried since I think they would enjoy it. It was recently in our city and VERY few of them ventured out to see it.
I know my kids may not be the pulse of the nation....but I just wonder if the audience for this it there.
Ana Ortiz from Ugly Betty would be the BEST Daniela ever.

I'd be shocked if Rita Moreno was NOT Abuela.
Antonio Banderas as Kevin.

AGREED! I would love to see her as Daniela!
Agree re Rita Moreno, can't imagine them getting anyone else for the role, unless Moreno passes on it, of course.
I've said before that Daniela must be played by Ana Ortiz, she basically auditioned for the role the past four years. However, I imagine Sofia Vergara or yes, Jennifer Lopez (if she's indeed a producer) getting roles instead.
Rosario Dawson or Zoe Saldana as Vanessa, America Ferrara as Nina, Rita Moreno as Abuela, that's not a bad cast at all.

How amazing and surreal it must be for Lin to be deciding which famous people should bring his story to the movies.
That's just awesome.
And why couldn't Karen Olivo be Vanessa? I think she could pull it off, even if she isn't a famous movie star yet.
Add me in to the Rita Morena crowd. That is such perfect casting.

It is fun to watch y'all playing the casting game I've been playing in my head for 10+ years. Carry on, with this in mind:
1) As of right now, I'm the only person cast. We're still in screenplay-lockdown mode.
2) Jennifer Lopez is not a producer on the film. That's a whack-a-mole rumor, it keeps popping up every time I knock it down.
Aight, gotta go DVR Glee. Shout out to Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey for kicking the world's ass and getting that well-deserved Pulitzer! Keep dream casting, dreamers!

I still think it's fantastic Lin Manuel will get to star.
I am not a huge Rosario Dawson fan....I'd love to see Karen Olivo as Vanessa, too! I'm sure Rosario Dawson will be considered but if they have to lower the key of every song for her....ugh. I wonder if any of the newer Disney kids, like Selena Gomez or Demi Lovato will be considered for Nina? IMO either would be too young, but you never know.
hahahaha hi Lin
Marc Klein has yet to write a good movie, so I'm less than enthused. I like that they're trying to rework the story though (it is the weakest part of the show).

My problem with America Ferrera for Nina is that the role needs serious belting chops. If she can sing or they dub her, sure.
Demi Lovato would not be too terrible, I suppose.
I wouldn't mind Nina to be a complete unknown ala Nikki Blonsky. She is basically the central character in an ensemble story.
Rita Moreno would be a lovely Abuela.
I wouldn't mind Jennifer Lopez as Daniella. I think she'd add a nice recognizable face to the film, and would definitely have a lot of fun with the role.
Antonio Banderas is almost too perfect for Kevin, while Gloria Estefan would make a great Camila.
Keith Robinson or Elijah Kelly would make a nice age appropriate Benny.
As for Vanessa, Rosario Dawson or Zoe Saldana (if she can sing). Ideally, if she was willing to do another musical, I'd go with Christina Aguilera.
I'd probably assume Sonny would also be unknown. Ideally a kid who's actually a kid.

Ugh! I wish I could suggest anyone for anything in this show. But sadly, I haven't seen "In The Heights"... yet! :P

And Robin de Jesus should be Sonny. Either him or Ricky Martin. They're both hot. :)
I hope she got a chance to audition (if she was interested)

I don't care. Her only real song is 'Carnaval Del Barrio' & I could see that song being turned into just a scene.
I don't think Vergara's voice is that bad. She's just desperately in need of some training.

Ooh, Q'Orianka Kilcher does have a good voice.
