Posted: 4/26/10 at 6:50pmJim3, we're not making you anything. If you feel you're overexposed to Lansbury, don't come into the thread. :) I find it almost impossible to be overexposed to her, however - one of the very few.

"I guess she doesn't equate starring with 'Bedknobs & Broomsticks' with starring in 'Dark Victory' or 'The Trip to Bountiful.'"
Why? 'Cause she considers it fluff? What about MARY POPPINS? (B&B is a MP knockoff anyway.) It won Julie Andrews the Oscar.

Posted: 4/26/10 at 7:11pmI don't really know why, you'd have to ask her. The only quote I remember from her authorized bio is that, while she was not particularly fond of it, she is glad that it garnered "a new audience" for her, presumably young people/movie-going families.

Why do I get the feeling this is a thread that like all the others will be beaten to death?
The noms will likely include Angela, Katie, perhaps Barbara Cook, maybe one chick from RAGTIME, from Fela, from AMERICAN IDIOT??
If Angela had not won last year her chances would be stronger this year. Barbara Cook has not won since 1957. Katie already has one.
What the three have in common is that they are in crappy productions hoisted by their own talents. Personally I think Katie hammed it up waaaay too much; some underplaying might have made the overall spot more effective. It is a crowdpleaser along the same lines as Marilyn Cooper in WOMAN OF THE YEAR who did win a Tony.
Angela does not need another Tony; Barbara does not need another Tony; Katie does not need another Tony. What they need are JOBS! :) Hollywood doesn't give a damn about the Tonys. If anything let one of these ladies win the silly award and get some better-paying work from it.
And re Lead Actress, Zeta-Jones should win if only because I have no idea who Rene Scott is except that she married a rich husband and sings like all the other gals in their 30s and 40s today: loud and bland. At least Zeta-Jones can act and evoke the emotions within a song.

fflagg, Cook will most likely be eligible for Leading Actress, so she probably won't be competing with Lansbury or Finneran. And what actress from Ragtime are you saying might get in?
And why don't you go see Everyday Rapture and find out who Sherie Rene Scott is and decide for yourself if she has any acting ability?

basically, it reads like they are not winning on merit by the way you put it. i would hope they do. i know there is a lot more involved but if angela is discounted because she may have gotten a "sentimental" tony last year, that is hardly fair. and Barbara has a better chance due to not winning since 1957? that bugs me.
as far as CZJ i hope she is not even nominated. she didn't deserve the oscar either. that came from heavy campaigning by her husband, imo.
i just am not a fan. i thought her acting and dancing was fine though. she is after all a world tap dance champion

HAHA that was funny. CZJ is probably among the frontrunners to win the award. A nomination is a certainty. And what dancing are you referring to? She skips a bit in Glamorous Life and waltzes at the beginning and end.
I'll be rooting for Sherie Renee Scott, but I would not be disappointed or annoyed if CZJ won the award, she's certainly not undeserving.

You're welcome for the laugh. I know damn well she will be nominated - I just don't like her. And yes, she deserves to be nominated. I also am aware she doesn't "dance" in Sondheim.
- i knew i should have deleted that post. :o/
