Well, I guess the Outer Critics Circle Awards will be the first test of the Lansbury/Finneran competition. Both ladies were nominated.

Angela is going to sweep the awards this season - this thread is pointless. Both women are giving excellent performances, but when voters are forced to choose between the two actresses, nine times out of ten they will choose Angela.

You're exactly right. That's why she beat Eve Best for the Drama Desk Award.

And why she beat Julie White for the Tony.

And why she has two Oscars.

I would just like to point out to those who told me back when casting was announced that Zeta-Jones would sell more tickets than Lansbury that, in Lansbury's absence, the grosses for the previous week fell 27.8% from the prior week. It seems a logical consequence of her vacation.

No pitting. :)

It's not impossible for Lansbury to still win an Oscar. She just has to make more movies. She has to want to make them, though, and to do that she'd have to stay away from Broadway and get back to Helen Mirren/Judi Dench territory.

She regrets not having starred in a film, and I know it dissapointed her not to win the Oscar, so you never know. Who thought she would return to Broadway in her 80s three times? It's only over when it's truly over.

I guess she doesn't equate starring with "Bedknobs & Broomsticks" with starring in "Dark Victory" or "The Trip to Bountiful." :)
